After reading the thread about Markus turning a 1:350 carrier RC I decided to place my story here to.
Just before I left for the Mediterranean Sea I started building Revell's 1:350 Bismarck with the intention of making here RC. On one hand because it's fun, on the other because I'm currently studying to become a seafarer and I'd like to finally do some sailing of my own. ;D
This is where my story starts.
A partly build model in a small kiddies pool situated in the shower. Note that I have no kiddies so this Bismarck has no competition in the pool.
The superstructure and behind it the workbench.
The first paint
How do you mean, oversized props? ;D
I calculated the weight of the model being around 1 kilo so I stuffed the hull full of heavy things until it weight a kilo en let is lose. The result? My calculations were right!
One of the rudders. On the model the rudders were roughly the same size as the props so I made my rudders roughly the same size as my (oversized) props. Just to be sure she was to be able to turn with a small radius.
The props fitted, it doesn't like very pretty this way but hè. I had no experience in RC shipping what so ever and this set-up worked. The metal thingy below the Bismarck is a thing I made at school as an exercise to get to know the machine's they have. As the motors are partly above the waterline this weight will be roughly 6cm underneath the hull to make sure she's stable.
The engine lay-out (with the picture below).
The stability thing, the brass rod will be cover with plastic to create a fin.
The location of the rudders.
Partly painted she finally sets sail!
The final lay-out.
She's bloody fast at full speed, her bow almost leaves the water completely at full speed.
More paint! The kit comes with decals for the camouflage and fake bow waves on the hull but I decided to spray paint everything.
The last colour is dry and the tape comes off for the last time, revealing...
This! Although I practised on a 1:570 model I pretty proud of pulling this paint job of. Now I have to finish the superstructure and all the fiddly bits but that time is spend building here bigger sister.
