I know this has been discussed elsewhere (perhaps others can post those comments in here) but I thought that it should be a topic on its own as we near completion and many are adding lots of extra bits/controls, especially for the guns.
I have been looking at lead acid battery weights and thought that my info could be of use in planning what to use.
I have listed below some weights for these batteries. The Maplin ones are from the UK electronic component store (the equivalent of the US Radio Shack). They are of reasonable quality, hence their slightly lower weights. The Yuasa batteries are available worldwide and are of a much higher quality, but correspondingly heavier and more expensive (although if you search on the web, they can be found reasonably cheaply)
All 6v Lead Acid
Maplin Batteries
Capacity in Ah___Weight in gms___Weight in lbs ozs
___4.5_____________ 744 _________1lb 10.2ozs
___7.2_____________ 1186 ________ 2lb 9.8ozs
___10_____________ 1606_________3lb 8.7ozs
___12_____________1683__________3lb 11.4ozs
Yuasa Batteries
Capacity in Ah___Weight in gms___Weight in lbs ozs
___1___________ _250___________8.8ozs
___1.2___________310__________10.9ozs
___2.8___________570__________1lb 4.1ozs
___4_____________870__________1lb 14.7ozs
___7____________1320__________2lb 14.6ozs
___10___________1930__________4lb 4.1ozs
___12___________2050__________4lb 8.3ozs
The following is a graphical presentation of theabove (gms only) showing the nearly linear relation between weight and capacity for each make (with a straight line fit made to the data)
