I am ready to put the final paint scheme on the hull and whilst checking the supplied picture for the lining up of the hull camouflage stripes, I noticed that there appears to be additional portholes above the horizontal black stripe. Can anyone enlighten me about these holes. I don't want to drill them out after I've painted.

on this pict from /www.bismarck-class.dk you can see one of theese holes (Very left of the photo) I guess theese are not port holes but water or smoke exhausts: on the right of the boat you can see one other pooring water Hope this photo can help.

Thanks Bruno, great help.
I had an idea it was something like that. I think that I will put them in to make it more realistic.
Can anyone who has the "Anatomy of the Bismarck" tell me if these holes are shown on their plans and the locations along the port and starboard sides?

having worked in ship building (harland &wolff) for 30 years I can tell you they are not portholes. they are scuppers, literally like the downspouts from a house. to shed water from the deck the water bar which runs along the deck has drains every so often. the main purpose of these is to save maitainence on the paint work. if you look at pics of ships you will see rust stains running down the hull at intervals where the scuppers vent the deck water.

if you look carefully at the pic posted by Bruno the opening on the hull has a black streak below, (black and white pic) this is rust

The Bismarck Anatomy book does not show those holes, but it does show two square hatch covers in the side of the hull at approx. one and two thirds along. One of them can be seen on the picture of the real thing on page 24. What would these be for I wonder?

shore supply connections (electric power) to save having to run the generators constantly. common practice in port.

The Bismarck Anatomy book does not show those holes Thanks, Swanrail. In that case I am going to duplicate the positions shown on the starboard side, on the port side.
