Does anyone have a closeup picture of the site extensions, Do i have to sand down the deck itself, or are the extensions later fitted. I can see it partly on pictures of swanrail and markus build
I know i've seen it somewhere explained, with drawings, but can't find it back

Look at my section Modifications and Tips, the thread SIDE EXTENSIONS explains my mods with pictures and drawings. I firstly increased the side pieces, then removed about 2mm of deck all round to make a snug fit inside. Note that the new side extension must be high enough so that when the deck veneer is fitted (either using the Hachette pieces or scratch building "real" planking as I did), the new side extensions are then sanded down level with the finished deck.

Thanks, i missed the drawings , but had seen the photo's I'm almost done with the first planking (we are in Holland at edition 13, but i bought the rest of the planking in the local model-shop) Now waiting for the first decks to be placed. All that waiting makes me a little crazy So these extensions only run along the removable deck ! and the fixed decks (After and Fore) Will be flush with site planking (on the fore deck i bevel the sides of the deck, as shown in your drawing) I can't see this very clear in your photo. BTW, you mentioned you removed 2 mm of deck all around, so i can assume the citadel planking are 2 mm thick greets Paul

You remove 1mm from each side of the deck from memory, making a total of 2mm.

Sorry if I misled you, the extension piece goes ontop of the Hachette side piece, hence is 1mm thick, making a total of 2mm reduction in the deck width. Note unlike the Hull part 11 instructions, I have not used a second layer at this point, else the scale goes to pot. Please also note that I fitted extra bulwark supports on which the deck sits along all of its length, making it more watertight. The sloping edges are along the total length of the ship, and as the slope is small not easily spotted. Look at the picture on the front of each issue where is can clearly be seen. It is so long ago that I carried out this mod, I had forgotten the fine details, but please note my comments about stiffening up the extension, as only being 1mm thick it is very fragile unless treated.
