Hi all, I'm fairly new to modeling, only about three years of experience but am getting better each time. Ships are my forte hence my interest in your sight. I am just now completing a pretty nice 350th scale Bismarck you can see here: s35.photobucket.com/albums/d197/coberg1/Bismarck/ When I have finished mounting it to it's display base I will submit some better quality photos for your gallery here. In the meantime I'm starting a 350th Tirpitz which I'm hopeful will come out much better than Bismarck did. So I'm here to watch and learn as I strive for model building perfection! ;D

Hello Chuck! Welcome to the board. When I read in your introduction, that you are new in modelling, I believed that. When I saw your photo-line NO MORE!!! It is a very well done modell - go on!

oooh !!! - i've just seen you also painted those "old signs" in the white circles (you know what i mean). if we would do so in germany, we would be arrested. this is strictly forbidden here....

Thanks for the kind words and welcome everybody. I really do only have a couple years experience building models though, Bismarck is my sixth build ever. And I had heard that portraying a Swastika in Germany was illegal Marckus, I hope no one is offended. My Tirpitz will be done in the 1943 camo scheme with the air recognition marks painted over.

no, i don't think anyone is offended by that. i just don't understand why showing this sign here in germany is not allowed for modelships....this makes no sense for me

I can understand not having the symbol spread around neighborhoods in graffiti form, vandals desecrating cemeteries is a problem in this country. Mostly dumb kids that do not really even understand what they are doing. This SHOULD be against the law imo. But in a historical context I see nothing wrong with the portrayal of WWII symbols whatever they be. If your modeling Nazi war machines the correct symbols and national markings should be used, this is not hate mongering by any stretch of the imagination, I agree the law sounds kind of silly. Sensitivity taken a step or two too far.

Thanks again guys. Bismarck is mounted on his display stand and looking very majestic, I only need to find some very light gauge tinfoil to add to the flag decals to give them a little body. I guess I'll be forced to go to the candy store and examine some chocolate bars for the right kind of foil, life is so much work. I still need to order the photo etch for Tirpitz, right now I'm still fixing the deck seams and getting ready to paint the hull. No skimping on the deck this time, I tried to take the shortcut on Bismarck's deck and it shows, on Tirpitz I will be masking each individual deck plank with .020 inch wide masking tape and spraying multiple colors of deck planks. I wonder if anyone here will be doing a Tirpitz conversion of their Hachette Bismarck? That would be a very interesting build.

The Tirpitz would make an interesting conversion. Cheers Mark

That was how I did the deck on Mikasa: Spray your first color down then cover one quarter of the deck with strips of tape evenly distributed across the whole deck, spray the next color, mask the next quarter, spray the third color, mask the next quarter, spray the final color, remove all the tape and spray a very diluted final color to blend everything together. Time consuming but nice results.

Looks excellent. Thats the one thing that my skills are weak on the painting front(hence why my Titanic is unpainted . I did not want to ruin my handiwork with crap painting. So whn the time comes to painting my Bismarck I might inlist the help of a local painter to spray the hulletc.
