Just joined the Forum and it's nice to see a models of a boats that I have actually been on, several times in fact. She used to be 'the boat' for the trip 'doon the watter', that's the river Clyde in Glasgow folks for those that don't know the 'Scottish' Many a summer we would 'as a family' cruise down to Largs, or Gourock for the day aboard the Waverley, but you never really appreciated what she was....."ach", those were the days...Dave

Remember it well and fondly known as the 'booze cruise'
I used to live in Stevenston which is just down the coast from largs so it was an annual event for me and my mates.. happy days indeed.

I was'nt quite that old Gordon, 'Ah wiz jist a wee lad', not quite into the booze at that stage of me life, that came much later!! Used to spend many a happy week-end though(the boozy days) in Irvine..I'm from Motherwell by the way....Dave

Where's Ellon by the way Gordon??....I'm in Canberra Australia, was over there February this year. Stayed in a wee village called Rigside (By Lanark), that's where I ended up living before migrating here in 1985...

Ellon is about 20 miles north of Aberdeen on the north east coast. I would normally say its a long way from Lanark but in Australian terms its a stones throw...
I am actually visiting my mum this week who lives in ayrshire and we seen the Waverly coming into Largs pier on Sun. She looks fantastic but my youngest was a bit miffed we weren't going on her.

Hadn't a scooby doo Gordon where you lived, now I know, but never been up there to that part of the country..lies!! I've two cousins and an uncle in Stonehaven, been that far!! Well, the story goes, my best mate (Now Deceased), it was his brother that lived in Irvine, guess where they lived """before""" females came into our lives?, Kilwinning!!! I used to travel from Wishaw by bus and stay the week end, and it went 'visa versa' as well. I eventually got a car, that made it easier, then we all got married, best mate went to South Africa, his brother to Irvine (now in Dumfries), and me, (much later)...a land 'doonunda'(1985) Glad to hear that the Waverley still does it's bit up and doon the Clyde. Keep up the good work...Dave

I Had an eyelid problem back in March, where the lower lid turned in causing eyelash to scratch the eyeball, hence my left eye was virtually useless for close work. Lat month I had an op which corrected this, and am now back in working order. The Bismarck and the Waverley were of course put on hold all this time, but I have temp left the Bismarck as I need to finish the Waverley asap, as she is promised to the PSPS for publicity purposes. Restarted work on the after deck house, shown below as of today: The Waverley visited us here in Swanage this last September, I had intended going on board for some more essential pictures of the bridge and other close ups, but unfortunately was thwarted. She was due an overnight stop on our pier, but bad weather meant that she had to return to Southampton, and as I cannot leave my disabled wife for more than 4 hours (impossible for her to get on board), I was unable to go on her when she did arrive, docking time was minimal. I then spent a week in south Wales attending my no. 2 daughters second wedding, leaving only a few days left of the Waverley visit here. I then thought that if I drove down to Weymouth (some 20 miles away) I could easily go on board as she was due to stay there for 90 mins, only to find when I got there, that although the weather was fine, the wind strength from the east meant that she could not dock at Bournemouth or Swanage and so the trip was cancelled!! One last chance......not a hope... she was then fogbound in Southampton, although weather clear here!!! Now getting very excited, am due to go on a 14 day trip on the new Queen Elizabeth, and she arrived at Southampton this morning for the very first time. The Queen is due to name her next Monday (seems odd to me, as the ships name is already plastered all over the hull!!!) Sadly, the new QE is Italian built, the original and the QE2 were both from the Clyde, ...happy days!!!

Sounds like you've had a busy time Don. Glad your eye is better now, and the after deckhouse is looking stunning.
Enjoy your trip on the QE. I saw part of the propulsion system in Alstom's factory. There are a lot of big cabinets of high tech electrical equipment. A far cry from big steam engines (or even diesel engines).
