Well I finally made a start on the Flying Scotsman partwork yesterday.
Have to say its a lovely piece of work except for a fault with issue one where two holes for washout plugs in the cab were not drilled so I took the pieces down the airport and used a pilar drill job done in seconds!
Any how on with the first few photos, I have git the first three issues done I have up to issue 7 so exoect some more photos over the next few days/
Issue 1
Construction of the basic cab structure a lot of presision bending needed to get curves on the cab side walls and detailing,
The first stage of the cab completed
The washout plug the brass ring round it has to be added by hand! very fidly job.
Issue 2
You get three of these gromit things they are about 5mm thick the build instructions say they are fine at that size if you are building the static model, I however I doing the working one (or at least planning too!) so have to file all three down to 4.5mm dose not sound much but it takes time and a aching wrist.
You also get the first part of the right hand chassis.
Issue 3.
You get two bits of brass (cant rember what they are off hand) and need to bend the into shape, the smaller single bend piece is easy the other is a bit more complex two 90dg bends and two of about 45dg.
Here you can see the chassis with the gromits fitted along with one of the brass thingys
same as above ony the other side.
The quality of the parts is very high should be an intresting build, its the first mostly metal model I have built!
