I too now feel obliged to register myself, again better late than never!
I am one of the groups ex merchant navy radio officers, when I left the sea I went into the Civil Aviation Authority, only to find that was full of ex R/Os as well!
I have been interested in model building since I was a boy (many moons ago!) and have scratch built solid hull clipper ships, and many planked hull vessels, such as Marie Deans, Cutty Sark (sorry to hear about her today), Smit London (seagoing twin screw R/C), Plaudit (river R/C tug), Titanic (static), Victory (static complete with sails) and lastly the Granado (static complete with sails). I have also scratch built a R/C tanker, the British Chancellor, one of my ex seagoing vessels.
I first got interested in forums with the Titanic, then the Victory and lastly the Granado before this one.
for my sins, I have 3 daughters and 5 granddaughters so also got landed with making toys for them, including a fully wired dolls house (from scratch) and a full size rocking horse (from plans).
Having been retired some 12 years, I also do voluntary work on our local steam railway, the Purbeck line (hence my pseudonym Swanrail!). I am helping to build a brand new station here at Harmans Cross (near Corfe Castle) and because of my hobbies do most of the carpentry work - although I did help make some signals a few years ago, using spanners of about 2 inches across the flats! So as you can see, I work from very large down to very small.
I find these forums absorbing, and very helpful, I am always amazed at other peoples tricks and improvements - Marcus has certainly helped with my decision to triple screw R/C with this one.
I am looking forward to the future, whether I shall last out the full 140 issues or not? because by then my eyesight might not be so good.........
