Thanks guys. I have absolutely no idea where I will put her (quickly looks around to check wife doesn't read this). I had planned to put it above my desk on a shelf where I currently rest a 1/350 bismarck, printer and photo frame, but found out it pretty well takes up the entire length of my shelf and everything else would then have to be moved. So I'm kind of out of ideas on that one.. My more pressing priority is to build the plastic case for it. The biggest sheet of plexiglass I can find at my local hardware shop is 1200 long, but the model needs at least 1400 length. I'm going to have to order it from one of those money laundering, rip off, plastic sheet making shops. I did bring the wooden base in from outside and was positioning it around the house to see if I could put it up as a shelf on a wall somewhere. I kept hearing this noise in the background - "NO!"... "what about here" "NO!".. what about "NO!".....what ab "NO!"... wife was doing a crossword at the table and kept one eye on me and one eye on the crossword. Did you know women could do that with their eyes?
So, no idea where uss cobia is going to be laid to rest.
Rod

DIY stores like B&Q sell 8 by 4 sheets of clear styrene. It isnt cheap but you do get enough for more than one model.

Mate that's your gato model submarine you're getting for christmas, but your son is going to put it together for you first. No luck on the gato placement, but its happy resting on the wargamming table for the moment, until my son wants to use it. Rod

Lol Mike and don't forget the internal after market add ons that cost as much as the sub itself, and you must get the photo etch - there should be about 50 versions of it now for the u-boat. Yes your wife is going to be so happy she bought that as a present...

Hi Rod have you found a home for your sub yet, or are you still having trouble. My wife said " If she had know how big the Uboat was she wouldnt have bought it. I said "Well you new it was 1/72 scale , so it would be big. She said " I thought it would as big as 1/72 airfix spitfire. These women got no idea mike

Hi Mike, unfortunately I have not found a home for it, but I do have the makings of a secret plan. To add to my woes though, my 50 inch RPTV stopped working a week ago and it was used as a shelf to hold a little project my son and I did last year. I couldn't find anyone who could repair it - apparently when rptv's get older than 8 years they don't bother to stock any spare parts any more, so its useless to me. I went and bought a nice new plasma tv on the weekend to replace it and sadly those things just can't be used as shelfs like the old tv's... So now I have two rather large models to put somewhere. Then in 6 months time I suspect I'll have a third I need to put somewhere.. gulp.. On the bright side, I am half way through building the display case for the sub. My super secret plan is to make the cabinet look good enough that I could mount it to the wall as a shelf and turn it into a conversation piece... in the pool room...maybe... Of course SWMBO is looking at me like a vulture looks at its prey just before it devours it... such is life Rod

Nice display case Rod, Sorry about your RPTV. I hope your secret plan works, Ive found a model shop in Henley, called Model Miniatures its only six miles or so from where I live, The guy there is getting my U boat crew in about two weeks, they sell all kinds of scale figures. When I collect the U boat crew Im going to ask about a crew for the Bismarck mike

That certainly is a nice looking case. I've got a set of that Lego Star Destroyer. It's a great kit. Took me ages to assemble, and even longer to take apart. It's currently sitting in it's box, waiting to be posted on Ebay - I have no space to display it

Take the screen out and convert it to a display cabinet?
