Last week, my windows XP had its annual tantrum and crashed on me such that I could not boot up the computer. Was forced to completely reload Windows, meaning all of my bookmarks and e-mail addresses went for a chop (did mean to back them up, but never got round to it................), so had to start reloading all of my software. Thought I would take a chance and bought the new Windows 7, my experience so far is that it is very good. Installation was very quick and easy, and although it all looks different, it is quite easy to use, and everything runs so much faster than ever before. WAs a bit worried as I have been using Windows Office 97 for many years (about 10!!)and did not expect it to even load, however it went in like a dream. I also use a programme called Picture Easy (Kodak) for my photos, which is even older, and to my surprise this also loaded very fast as well and WORKED!!! Very strange to me is that they do not bundle an e-mail programme, Outlook Express seems to have disappeared forever!, however, you can download for free from the Microsoft site their new e-mail programme, which sets up the same as Outlook Express. Overall, so far, very impressed, when I originally installed XP took quite a long time to get things working as well as this one does in a few hours!

Yes, it's a $&@*%# when it crashes, isn't it?
I am still using XP (SP3) without any problems and don't intend to change anytime soon.
I regularly backup my system partition with Ghost 2003 to a different hard drive and also keep a copy of the first clean install. I've had two crashes in the last three years, and both times I had XP up and running in 15 minutes from my Ghost copy. Only problem with Ghost 2003 is, that it doesn't see SATA drives, so my system drive and the drive with ghost images have to be IDE.
Additionally, I regularly backup 'My Documents' and 'Outlook Express' even though are on a different partition, and I also backup my 'My Favorites' and 'Bookmarks'.
It's a bit of a pain to backup regularly, but boy aren't you glad you did it when the system crashes

With an enviable constancy firm Microsoft builds its products through a one - one bad, very bad second. Takes more resources from the hardwere this to work. XP, but only Pro - the only good product from Ms, and then only because it is simply cutting back on server 2003
