I need to rant.
Workington's my home town (22 years) and I have family who live about 10 mins walk from the bridge that fell . They now have to travel about 18 miles to get home. Work has been shut for my brother in law and my nephew and nieces are not going to be at school next week. I also have friends who live in Cockermouth, I feel sad for those people. I went through the sheffield floods a few years ago, so I know what they are feeling. At least Sheffield/Rotherham are a big city/town and they were able to recover fairly quickly, with money from the goverment and the EU. Mr Brown has offered £1 million, sorry but what an arse, that amounts to about £15 to £20 per person. What are they to do with that, they are in for a **** christmas and new year. What a joke this goverment is. Lets hope the EU are able to step in and help.

Saw a bit of it on the tv, good luck with everything. Melbourne out here had over 50mm in 1 night, (a months worth of rain). 130 fires burning across New South Wales, some very close to Sydney.

They usually start giving out weather warnings when 50 or so millimetres of rain are predicted, the Lake District and sorrounding areas had 360!!The whole area is in chaos with destroyed and shut bridges,a lot of the roads are shut with lifting tarmac as well. After our to do in Jan 2005 they spent 38 million on new flood defences and it paid for itself on Thursday. RIP Bill Barker.
