Hi Guys,
As I am so far behind in my Bissy model I still haven't completed the hull (waiting for good weather to start sanding again) and I still have to find a way of pulling the decking up when I need access to the RC stuff.
So I orginally thought of magnets but I don't know how strong the ones are I have and I think I would have difficulties in trying to get the deck up if they are too strong.
So I was thinking about electromagnets and having a little switch say on the deck but hidden beneath one of the big guns. I know you can create a simple electromagnet by wrapping wire around a nail and then putting a current through the wire with a battery. So if I created something like this but had a switch on the wire before it reaches the battery would this work?? I would have like 4 of these at each corner of the deck or something.
So crazy or would it work?

It could be made to work, but I think the current drain would be quite high. Fridge magnets might be easier.

I uses some magnets from Maplin araldited into the blocks where the screws went in. Works quite if not very well.

mark is right - you would need a powerful battery pack >2000mAh just to supply the 4 magnets...
how about horizontally mounted bolts ??
my deck had a tight fit, too - there was no fixing needed, gravity did the job perfectly ;D

I have magnets in mine, but like Markus said they are hardley needed as the deck fits very snugley into the hull.

I,m not to sure on this, but i think electro magnets might also interfere with your radio, especially as the distance gets greater from the transmitter.

It shouldn't do; as you're using a dc source so there would not be any rfi. As long as the receiver is not sitting right up close to one of the electro-magnets it shouldn't be affected at all. Might be a different story of you were using an ac supply to power the electrmagnets. It a good thought though Alan.
