Hi,
I am on the look out for a nice large scale model of an Iconic US battleship and all that comes to mind are the IOWA class of ships. Is there one ship in particular that stands out? As there are the Hood for the UK, the Bismarck for Germany and the Yamato for Japan. I would like to find one for the US.
Thanks.

USS Missouri (BB-63) is an iconic one - where the Japan signed the peace treaty at end of WW2
USS Arizona (BB-39) again is an historical ship - the memorial at Pearl Harbour

USS Arizona was commissioned in 1916, a Pennsylvania class battleship.
There are a few Iowa class ships open to the public (USS New Jersey is in Camden, across the river from Philadelphia; another is in Virginia I think), but I think they lot a lot of their armament and gained some missiles - they don't have millions of AA guns any more. If you're building one, you (or a friend) can get lost of photos as well as the historical stuff from books and the net.
They're big!

Hi
If you are looking for a large scale kit of a US battleship then be patient as Trumpeter are going to be bringing out a plastic 1/200 US Arizona at some stage. No dates have been released but it is in their catalogue.
I have built their Russian Sovremeny 1/200 and it was amazing so lets wait and see the Arizona - a must have!

The USSR Sovremeny is a destroyer corresponds to USN Aegis destroyers, I think. So a battleship would be bigger and dearer. nm Tried to find a 1/200 Trumpeter battleship - didn't see any on this list. www.wonderlandmodels.com/brands/trumpeter/nm

Yeah I was only hoping nm, I doubt i'd get it for £50. But the 1/350 is around £60 for the Arizona so if the 1/200 is around £130 odd i'd be happy with that. Also found a load more 1/350 ships i'd love to do that are stupidly cheap at 30 odd quid each. One of them which does appeal is the Prince of Wales and the King George The V who have a link to the bissy. Found them on this site: www.westbourne-model.co.uk/plastic-model-boat-kits-4625-0.htmlLooking to do the Enterprise and Nimitz carriers too.

Nice one Skyfire, I just signed up to the 11month of issues from DeAgostini for the 1/250 Yamato so she should be around the same size as the bissy which will be nice. She will be static though as my bank balance is taking a hammering lol. Especially as my next big buy will be RC and its a very appropriate boat to get as you'll see. Its all dependant on what my work bonus is though so I hope i an get the ship and make it RC but we shall see, will let u all know which boat it is when I know if i can afford it!!

Looking to do the Enterprise and Nimitz carriers too. While you were away I saw the (1966) obituary of Admiral Chester Nimitz in the New York Times. If I remember correctly he never formally graduated from High School when he should have, so did it later - in Admiral's uniform! nm Found it! Here's that bit: Annapolis Second Choice But he dreamed of being a soldier, not a sailor, and while in high school tried for an appointment to West Point. When none was available he took a competitive examination for Annapolis, and was accepted when he was only 15 years old. He left high school to enter the Naval Academy and was not awarded his high school diploma until many years later, when he had retired from active Navy duty. He probably was the only person ever to graduate from high school in the uniform of a fleet admiral.

Well I emailed Trumpeter today to ask when the 1/200 model will be out, hopefully they will reply.
Also has anyone seen a nie large scale model of the USS Enterprise from WW2? I have found plenty of the modern nuclear powered Enterprise but none of the WW2 ship, have found the Yorktown so will get that if I can't find the Enterprise.
