Hi,
Ok I am hand planking my decking as I didn't like the laser cut decking provided. Now I have used Limewood Sheets to do the borders of the decking and to fill in the cut out parts of the decking. Unfortunetly while sanding the deck down it seems this sheeting doesn't take kindly to sanding. Its as though its getting scratched up and it doesn't look great.
So I am wondering will the varnish I will have to apply make these borders look better? Or should I use a different type of sheeting like maple??
Oh and also what varnish should I use when I have finished the decks?
Thanks.

I just don't know, but my guess would be to use a much finer sandpaper. The sanding block should keep everything even.

I think a fine sandpaper and using some sanding sealer should do the trick.

So you wouldn't put any varnish on the decking them Mark? I'll put some pictures up tonight so you can see what I mean and i'll be getting some finer sandpaper tomorrow.

I'd varnish it only after I'd got a smooth finish. Sanding sealer is a better route to a good finish as it fills the grain and is easy to sand. However, it doesn't provide a gloss finish or much protection, so you need to finish off with varnish for the final protective/decorative coats.
