Anyone thought about putting little german sailors on the deck and if so any recommendations? Just to add an extra touch of realism.

Hi Rod,
I building a static model and had thoughts about manning the ship and have been looking for 1/200 scale figures but as yet not come across any.
The size for a 6' man would be a little over 9mm, so 10mm would be acceptable, do you know of a source?

I have also searched the net. For my Victory (at 100 to 1) I eventually tracked down Nelsons Navy figures at 94 to 1 by Deans Marine, but no sign of anything smaller anywhere. Would not fancy scratch building these!!!!

Yes there is a suprising lack of suppliers at this scale. I did see some Prieser stuff that was very expensive that were ordinary railroad figures but no navy people. www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Preiser_Figures_1_200_1_350_scales__Retail_only_.htmlPerhaps its a case of getting those guys and modifying them, although at that scale it will take a steady hand. I've tried the usual GMM and Eduardo and other photo etch but no luck. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Rod

Well done DaveM. The first link has a showroom some 33 miles from here, so might get up there sometime and have a look. In no great hurry, as the crew will not be able to board for another 2 years yet!!!!

Davem, thats the link I found, but they're not sailors, just ordinary looking people. Question is, would anyone noticed at this scale if they were painted the right way.
Swanrail if they are so close to you, I'd be keen to find out if they have anything else resembling sailors in this scale or if you could let us know your thoughts on their ability to masquerade as sailors?
thanks
Rod

Well my internet searching has revealed all sorts of interesting ideas. There are actually a number of manufacturers out there that can help us. I'll try and sumamrise: Someone has made 1/250 sailors for card models : homepage.ntlworld.com/david.hathaway/downloads/misc/sailors.pdfThis is the artical it came from - have a look in the section called Crew Figureswww.papershipwright.co.uk/hints.shtmlI was unaware there is a model railway scale called Z scale which is 1/220. So there is a lot of searching that can be done at that scale. The N Scale molde railroad stuff is 1:/160 or thereabouts and is just a bit too big for our purposes.. I still haven't found anything that suits yet, although I'm going to download the paper cutout sailors and see just how funny they turn out. cheers Rod

I had considered putting a few figures on just to give an impression of the sheer size of Bismarck but as per the previuos posts finding suitable ones is proving difficult.
