In between causing havoc between posts i have, in fact, built a stand for my boat. Found some pieces of Mahogney hanging around so I rolled up my sleeves and broke out the Jigsaw!! First we start with the blank canvas... Next marked up the height of the cut: I got the curvature of the boat by simply placing the magazine supplied stand on top. I cut a middle piece to suit with the same height of 50mm as the end pieces, drilled through with 12mm spade bit and with a quick blast of an orbital sander brought them up just right. Drill through with an 8mm drill bit and countersunk. A quick few coats of wood stain/varnish gives you: Next up is some chrome plated wardrobe railing about 13 mm od Sliding a roughly shaped piece of wood down the centre and offer up the assembly to the end piece: With a top view to show you the fit (secured with a dab or two of 24 hour Araldite: I bagged a few mirror fixing screws (the ones where you can place a cap over the screw head: Now my intention was to dril the end of each rod and screw them into the end pieces - but proved difficult so I drilled out the wood ends and ending up gluing the screws in with 24 hour Araladite which gives you this: Slide in the middle support (which is free moving for now for final adjustment for the bilge keels to fit without them snagging) And voila the final product

you could use the stick on felt that you can get from any craft store.
It comes in sheets that you can cut to the size you need.
I use it on my sword stands and have never had any scratching or tack issues (where the glue used on the sticky side comes through to the felt side).
I trust the stuff as the swords I have average around the $2000 US $ mark and I would not put anything near them that could cause even a tiny bit of damage.
Comes in red, blue, green and black.

I used a strip of carpet tile to line the stand on mine.
