Hi chaps . I have noticed that when you fit the supplied decking for the upper parts of the super structure etc and possibly main decking, you can see the WHITE sides of the wood which isn`t good. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you cure it ?.
All the best Trigger.

Hi Trigger, do you mean the edge of the thin decking?
It is a bit paler than the top, but if you varnish the edge too, it should darken down a bit. You can, if you have some edges showing up in the superstructure and have a steady hand, paint the edge the same grey colour as the superstructure itself.
I will be using my own railings for the main decking, not the supplied individual rails, but full length white metal rails. They will be attached along the edge of the decking and will therefor hide the edge successfuly without any painting needed.

I'm going to try to plank my own deck.
But I think that on the real ship, the wooden planks would not have been in a recess, but there would have been a short metal band around the edges of the wooden deck, just inboard from the sides. So I'm going to paint it grey at the sides, because at the 1:200 scale i think the couple of extra cms of metal would be impossible (although I suspect there are better modellers than I who could pull this one off!)

Hi Eric thanks for the advice. its given me something to think about. Where are you going to get your railings from? I've had my railing in storage for over a year trigger, I bought them off Markus, but I am sure you can source them off the internet. I will say that the supplied rails actually do look better, but I just don't want to drill 300 holes! -edit- Good luck with doing your own decking tdjc, some of the other guys have gone down that route and have made a brilliant job, check out some of the diaries.
