I used a black and Decker power file to take down most of the angle, then finished off with a sanding block.
First mark off with pencil the angle you want, I took off most of the angle on one side then a little on the other so it isn't a right angle triangle.
Please check the direction of the angle and get it right before you start to sand. it is imortant the the two keels are oposite to each other otherwise you'll end up with one keel pointing up and one down!

Since I made my own from plastic (see previous page for pointer to photographs), I used a 6 inch hand saw to cut approximately to the shape of the supplied, wooden cut-outs and then old fashioned sweat and tears with a sanding block (course grit - 80 - first to get nearly to shape and then fine grit - 400 - to finish)

Photo set for the keel construction and fixing is "Bismarck at 3 Jan 08" (click on "More sets" to see the full list).

Any hints for sanding it to shape. Hi Sky Bilge keel was not too difficult to sand into shape. In cross section, it needs to be triangular. Being 3 ply, you should be able to keep the leadig edge fairly straight by keeping the edge along the centre of the middle section. Use about 80 grit initially. Takes a bit of time, but I sanded mine all by hand. I think this stuff is on about page 4 of my build. Baz

you HAVE TO use superglue as the hull is already painted
white pva glue is inteded for 'wood on wood'

I would actually sand off the paint from the groove, and then use Araldite to glue the bilge keels in place. There aren't any glues that really stick to paint well. Araldite will give a stronger join that either superglue or PVA.
