It may sound a bit daft, but whenever I have been working on a model with tiny little parts, it is enevitable that some will ping off the table and onto the floor, the God help you! Who hasn't been down on hands and knees, bum in to air, going over every square inch of flooring all round the blessed table, picking up miniscule peices of unidentifiable something, looking for that invisible bit that fell?
CLEAN THE FLOOR FIRST, PEOPLE!!
Not only will it make it easier to FIND that missing part, but it earns you brownie points with the wife!
Eric.

Hi Eric, You've hit the nail on the head, have a Karma point! It helps if you can put your work table in the corner of the room against two walls. I usually put old cardboard against these two walls so that any parts that shoot that way, bounce back! This gets rid of 50% of the problem. Sit close to the table and your body will also help.

I am quite lucky these days, I have wooden laminate floors, but when I did have carpets, i would have a very powerful torch (I use my divers torch) and hold it at ground level, it highlights anything on the carpets clearly, even on a bright day.
Isn't it amazing just how far some bits can travel? some also seem to have the ability to move about by themselves, cos you find them where you KNOW you have looked a dozen times already!!!

Ah, the dreaded carpet monster. The number of times I've scoured the carpet, picking up each tiny bit of dirt (bits of pop corn, crisps, grit, the odd pea, bits of carrot, etc.) only to find the part has suddenly appeared half an hour later, in the middle of an otherwise spotless part of the carpet. The torch is a cracking idea - it's found several otherwise AWOL parts for me.
