Just had a quick look at your video. Very impressed. Did you take her up to full power? She certainly turned very well. Fine looking ship Markus. yes, it was full power when going straight ahead. but i have already removed 1 cell - 6volts are really enough markus

Re details of hachetts offer: it says on the coupon to reserve send cheque or supply credit card details for £10 deposit then they will write to confirm with invoice for the remaining £115 does any one know how quick they want the remaining £115, was my hope that would be able to spread cost over a few months.

I've got a funny feeling, reading their notification about it, that once you reserve the kit with your £10 deposit, they they send you an invoice for the balance. Therefore, until you receive kit in issue 58, they have your money, possibly on deposit! Like you, would have liked to have paid weekly but doubt that will be the case m8y.

Hi fellow builders,
Hachette advised me of the following today
QUOTE Once customers have sent in their £10 deposit for the RC kit, they will be sent a letter explaining everything they need to know about the £115 balance. In short, the remaining £115 is due by 28th February 2008. Hachette are unable to accept payments in instalments but the deposit method does allow several months for people to save up. For customers who pay via Credit Card, Debit Card or Direct Debit, payment will be taken 7 days before the RC kits are despatched (the last week in March as issue 58 goes on sale 02/04/08)

I assume that if you have plans to put radio gear in for the turrets, you need a radio with more than two channels. Is this correct?

Yes Wolfie, you'll need one channel for steering, one for forward/reverse, which is all a 2 channel set will do. You'll need more chanels for more functions.

Is the R/C gear that Hachette is offering a good deal or is it better to goto the Hobby Store and purchase motors ect.. on our own. Is there a size limit on the motors and power source. I have had R/C gas cars but have never has to deal with electric before...

If you're a novice with electrics and/or boat running gear, then Hachette's offering is as easy way to go. You get everything you need in one package. The gear is fairly good quality and not too badly priced. However, it is a no frills package.
You could probably get things a little cheaper if you go to your local hobby shop, but it's probably not a smart option unless you know what you're doing.
As far as power goes, well, it's very easy to over power a model like this. There is plenty of room in the hull for powerful motors, but this is a model war ship, not a speed boat. They don't look good if they go too fast. I once had a model of HMS Sheffield that was a little slow. I fitted a larger motor to it, and it became very difficult to drive. Wouldn't go slow enough, heeled very badly in turns, and when I went full ahead it took off like a scalded cat, leaving the superstructure behind !!

Whats going on ere then The RC offer leaflet shows three prop shafts and the rudders as one piece black plastic units, it now seems the rudders are to be laminated ply sections which look awful and the 3rd prop hangs of a plastic screw, there havin a laugh arent they Even the motor monts are different, on the pullout with issue 1 the are shown as metal and yet they supply plastic! I think there clause of "items supplied may noy be supplied of shown" is pushing the boundries of this get out clause! One very important thing they seem to have missed in the design of the running gear is no cardon joints on the prop shafts, the running drive train will likely shake the stern of the ship like the words on the Renault Megane TV ad ;D There RC set-up & installation looks a bit a of a joke to me

So are you using a three or two prop? And I can't help but think that there could be a possibilty of Hachette UK using more substantial mounts which you commented were a 'joke'. I feel an email coming on

I plan to have a twin prop version and very glad I waited to see the Hachette offering as....well er.... make your own minds up on that. The way I heard it from the outset via Hachette was that the RC set supplied in Germany was to be identical to that supplied in the UK. So to answer your question, yes, you will likely be seeing plastic motor mounts etc etc, I suppose its no major thing but it would be nice to receive what was shown, what would concern me more is them showing an item they have not supplied as in a 3rd prop shaft, this is not 'items may not be supplied as shown' but item's may not be not supplied at all Cant stop laughing at that 3rd prop fixing idea they have come up with, it cracks me up ;D ;D
