As you probably know, I'm working in Korea at the moment. One of the guys at work had a birthday today so somebody brought in a cake. Now a lot of Korean cakes are made from sticky rice, which has the taste and consistency of uncooked pastry. Helen, who got the cake was very careful to avoid a sticky rice cake, and she should be commended for succeding in this, and it's not always easy to tell. After the blowing out of the candles, pulling the party poppers, and a painful rendition of happy birthday the cakes was cut and served. It looked like a fairly normal cake, but there was a large amount of filling, a slightly odd looking cream of some sort. After a bit of a prod, a bit of discussion, (we've been in Korea too long not to be wary) we decided to take the plunge and actually taste it. A bit more prodding, more discussion, and not quite so enthusiatic eating we eventually worked out what it was. Which leaves us with the question. Why on earth would you put mashed potato in the middle of a birthday cake True story - I've just eaten some of the cake (not a lot mind !!)

Probably an third party from a neutral country such as Switerland. And probably does all the tasting to avoid any 'incidents'!
