Hi Shane, thanks for the K. Don't worry about the deck being too light, you can always brush a light colour wash over it to bring it up a bit. The bleached-out/dry-dock look and the mahogony sideboard (wet) look are both accurate; it's just amatter of taste. Take a look at my wife's garden furniture on 'Deck Planking' under my Mods & Corrections post to see what happens to teak when left out in the open. David

Hi Shane, I think your deck looks great just as it is. It's not helpful to be prescriptive in these matters because ultimately whats important is whether or not you are pleased with the result yourself. My planks are fractionally under 1mm; they are still out of scale, being too big, but they are as small as I'm prepared to deal with, since life may not be long enough do them accurately! Your 4mm teak sounds interesting, have you tried cutting it into 1mm strips and using it flat, so that the 4mm is the plank height? One consideration though would be the colour it turned when varnished. Your lime planks will only darken only a fraction when coated with matt varnish. David

david the teak is 0.4mm veneer,I did try using it and by the time you lay it on the deck you might as well be using the supplied deck! thanks for the advice anyway i will carry on with what have been using,I'm definately happy with the results I'm getting but didnt want to be to far out as this my first build after seeing some of the other builds on this & other sites felt a little out of my league ,but since chatting with yourself and some of the others on here feel much more confident in my build and abilities.thanks again david!!!!ad the rest of you all as well ;D ;D ;D ;D

I haven't been updating much so about time i did this the pic's that follow are the decking so far ,this has been a hard slog so i have been doing another project that has been inspired by poul on the other builds string ,the richeleiu allthough i am doing her in a scale of 1;100 which i think will be easier for the detail on her is very difficult especially for us fat fingered lot as my daughter says.

Looking good Shane, as you say, well worth the effort. Suggest you overlay the Hachette decks on yours so that you can cut into the deck planking for the ventilator, etc bits. I then cut through the outline of each with a scalpel, remove the planked portion (very carefully!!) and then fill in with some 1mm lime sheet cut to fit in exactly (use the Hachette piece as a template for this) . for close ups, I use the macro mode on my digital camera, this keeps the objects in sharp focus.

One of the disadvantages of this forum is that you see great work done, and ask "Why can't I do stuff like that?!" Looking really great.

Beautiful deck Shane! Boring though it can be to do the decks this way, you show just how worthwhile all that effort is. Have some 'K'. David
