Issue 23 fits the two planks on the top of the centre sections. I have decided to reinforce the top plank, (a) to make it easier to sand down level and (b) to improve the water seal. To this ends, I have been fitting a 10mm by 3mm strip level with each frame and glued to the topmost plank, see pictures below: [ These alow more accurate sanding down to fit the deck tightly to the planks, as can be seen in the picture below for the stern deck: Ideally, the top of the stiffeners should have a thin neoprene layer added, so that when the deck is fixed down, it makes a tight waterprrof seal. I intend to fix my decks down with small magnets, NOT the screws supplied in issue 23!

Have set the first magnet in the stern tonight as a trial,. looks promising. It is the 6mm x 2mm magnet, code YA28. I have used a steel washer fitted into the underside of the deck and the magnet fitted into my side supports shown above. For the stern section, I intend using four of these magnets, two front, two stern. For the central section, having to contend with more weight when fully built, I shall probably use the 10mm x 5mm magnets code YA29. Again using the same steel washers set into the underside of the deck. This time there will be one front and one stern, both central, with halfway along one port and one starboard. Main worry is what to grab hold of when trying to release the deck when finished, it all looks a bit delicate to me!!! All parts I am gluing into place using Araldite.

Thanks for that. I assume you have made some sort of indent/dent inthe hull and deck to allow both parts to sit flush in the model so the deck is not proud of the hull.

Yes, my current set up for the stern deck involves bedding in both the magnet and the "keeper". However, I have had another simpler idea which I hope to publish later next week, For the centre deck section, I am still mulling over the best way and what size magnets to use. My model is being a test bed, so hopefully when all the snags are ironed out I can inform all who are interested, please be patient!
