hoping markus is still around when that time comes ;D As long as he stays away from any swordfish torpedo planes while sailing his finished model he should be all right. ;D i'm not worried, lassek rudders are torpedo-proof ;D ;D markus

I'm not sure that black smoke would be correct anyway.....it was considered bad engineering to show black smoke, made spotting by the enemy easier. (unless you were doing it deliberatly to make a smoke screen.)

(unless you were doing it deliberatly to make a smoke screen.) Its still considered bad engineering to show black smoke, it just messes up your engine (or boilers in Bismarck's case). Deliberatly making black smoke would have happend somewhere outside the boilers I think.

I 'think' you'd have to go for a pyrotechnic to make black smoke. As they guys say, black smoke is not normally made by boilers. It means that either something is wrong, or the engineer on watch is not doing his job properly.

Markus, in issue 86 there are some gratings in the top right of brass part 741. Any idea where these go? Thanks

Thanks Markus, thought thats where it is supposed to go, but it seems such a bad fit I had my doubts. Assume from your model that you have not yet received instructions to fit it yet? If so, yet another odd piece to put in my spares box awaiting finalisation!!!!!

I wish hachette would have produced the parts more.....efficiently, My spares box is full of sprues with just a few odd grilles, ladders and windshields that I havent been told to fit yet, it's annoying because i'm scared i'm going to loose them all!

I am with you all the way, Daniel. I am scared stiff that some of my odd bits should have been fitted already, or that I will not be able to recognise them when the time comes, etc. I am suprised that each section of the model is not fully completed before going onto the next bit. The hull still needs lots of work, as does the after superstruture, yet shortly we shall be building the small boats!! (and where is the logic that the forward two hangars will be fitted with boat cradles, but not the main after one which was virtually complete many moons ago? Again, the gun turrets seem to be complete by issue 105 or so, yet no sign of the gun barrels!! In my case, I cannot assemble the turrets until I get the barrels as I intend to make my gun barrels lift as they turn. Looks as if the last few weeks of the build will be a nightmare trying to get all the odd bits together!

Hi Markus,
Looking ahead, I will probably have to cut down the prop shaft housing where it exits the hull so the props can fit through the supplied shaft supports.
How do I do this, or am I best to buy a couple of shorter shafts housings and use them with the long shafts?
I have not as yet fitted the shafts in place, so I can be quite flexable on this.
Cheers, Eric.

if you intend to use the supplied supports with a drive set you'll have to shorten the shafts and extend them with a piece of 3/2,1mm brass tubing. this tubing fits into the supports and a-frames just in case you need the measurements, i sent the supports shown to a good fellow in france

Ah!
That looks good, I'll have a bash at doing it like that, Thanks Markus!
Glad I held off putting in the prop shafts.

I was thinking that i could cut out a section in the middle of the shafts and bond the end parts back together and setting the joint in epoxy resin.
This would ensure I keep the end parts at both ends intact.
