Reply from Hachette
Ahoy Men,
Just received this letter from 'Mr. who knows who' at the 'Big H', copied in full.
Dear Sir,
We would like to thank you for your continued interest in our publication Build the Bismarck. Regarding your query about the supply of laser-cut decking planks, we will be happy to supply you with a set. They will be available when issue 60 goes on sale and we will post them directly to you.
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you will continue to enjoy building your model.
Yours sincerely

Clearly, if you want laser-cut decking for your model, you are going to have to write personally to Hachette to get it, it's not going to be standard issue. The address to write to is posted above. Since getting fired-up about these decks some months ago, and going to the trouble of getting Hachette to honour their commitments, my thinking has shifted back to making the deck planks the traditional way as demonstrated by Don. I shall probably wait until issue 60 to finally decide though, but I can't imagine that even laser-cut planks are going to be as realistic as real planks, though they would of course be a serious improvement upon the printed decks, which are frankly awful. My suggestion to those of you who want the laser-cut decks is to get your orders in well before issue 60.
PS: I notice that some of us captains have been promoted/demoted to 'Blitzen', as in , 'Achtung, Spitfire. Donner und Blitzen!' much loved of my war comic days. Can someone, probably Mark, offer an explanation? And, I've often wondered what S.I.N.K means, though I've had lots of fun inventing interpretations. How about, 'Society for the Inspection of Nobbly Kneecaps'.
