The old fashioned way of making lead shot was by dropping molten lead from a tall tower, where is formed into tiny balls of lead as it fell. So, get an old saucepan, a camping stove and climb up Blackpol tower, then drop the molten lead over the side, only problem might be finding it on the ground (or on peoples persons)! ;D.

It's a very long way down from the top of the Blackpool tower, (went up the tower in 2007).

Do it the easy way - fire a shotgun into some balsa wood blocks and see what happens.

Do it the easy way - fire a shotgun into some balsa wood blocks and see what happens. nm Forgive me for stating the obvious, but wouldn't it be easier just to break open the shotgun cartridge and extract the shot?

Seriously, when you fly this rocket I assume you have to be well away from airports, wind turbines etc.

Hit the right end of the cartridge with a hammer, and the pellets self-extract.

Seriously, when you fly this rocket I assume you have to be well away from airports, wind turbines etc. Er, Yeah !!!! It's a good idea to avoid trees and large expanses of water as well.

Got the fins on, launch lugs fitted and nose cone 3/4 assembled. These rockets are a fairly quick build !! Photos to follow...... didn't bring the camera to work

Why not go for the double? See if you can shoot down the rocket on its first flight.

Forgetting the lead shot as it's all safely installed, and aimed at Rochdale....... The motor mount is glued into the main body. Next the fins go on. These are glued on with 5 min epoxy. There is a tang that goes through the main body and lands on the motor mount, making this structure very strong. After the fins are dry, I added a fillet of epoxy which strengthens the joint adn improved the aerodynamics. Launch lugs next. The launch pad consists of a metal blast deflector, to stop the jet of flame scorching the ground, and a 1/4" steel rod to guide the rocket off the pad. The eyebolt assembly goes on the bottom of the nose cone. This holds the parachute and shock cord. The other end of the shock cord is already glued to the motor mount. The shock cord is made from Kevlar, and needs to be tough, as there is 8 oz of lead shot in the nose cone. The nose cone is ejected by a small black powder charge when the rocket reaches it's apogee, deploying the parachute (hopefully !!) This is two halves of nose cone glued together. Finally the completed rocket. It now needs the nose cone sanding and sealing, and a lick of paint. However, I'm going to have to wait for warmer weather before I can paint it as any spraying will have to be done outside.
