Hurray, I've finally got the Receipt of Competent Authority Transfer doucument from the HSE Exec. This means I can finally buy the rocket motors to launch this beast. Now, where can I get the Acme Penguin Training Centre Homing Device I have one device in my man lounge!

I've finally finished and launched my missile. Painting was a real pain. The paint crept under the masking tape. The black reacted with the grey, and it was a real pain to mask. However, it was finally finished and it looks quite good from a distance. Here are some pics of the model being prepared on the lauch pad. and finally one of the model launching into space (well, about 700 feet towards space anyway). The flight wasn't perfect. The model corkscrewed a bit which is why it didn't get to the 1100 feet is should have done. The flight was on an Aerotech F40W-7. Not a great video, but the speed caught my wife unawares with the camera !! It did make a good roar tho and the parachute deployed so I got it back in one piece.

Wonder if I can find mine, (Yes I really do have 1). Problem I have is the damn wooden fins won't stick to the super smooth and shiny cardboard tube. Any hints.

Problem I have is the damn wooden fins won't stick to the super smooth and shiny cardboard tube. Any hints. Yeah - scuff the tube witha bit of sandpaper and then use white PVA wood glue. It should stick no problem. Let each fin dry properly before moving on to the next one. It's quite easy to knock off a half cured fin

The Honest John flew again today. On the last flight it corkscrewed a bit and that knocked a lot of altitude off the flight. After a good deal of consideration, talking to some knowledgable people, including the manufacturer ! and playing about with the simulations in Rocksim (Rocket CAD software), I came to the conclusion that the rocket was only marginally stable, and needed a bit more lead in the nose. So a bit of major, open nose cone surgery was required. Hacksaw. Drill, no nurse, the big one please. 5 oz lead shot and epoxy mixed together, reconnect severd nose conetop with more epoxy and she was done. Then into the cosmetic surgery for a bit of filler and paint. You actually have to look close to see the scar. This flight there was a very very slight corkscrew during the thrust phase, but she straightened up after the motor burned out and soared to about 2000 feet. Parachute ejected more or less on apogee, and she came down pretty close to the lauch pad. An Aerotech F52 motor makes a good roar and she left the pad like a scalded cat. Well chuffed I'll post some photos later. PS. I think Rochdale survived

We didn't get any photos, but we did get a video of it leaving the pad at a rapid rate of knots. It was a bit too fast for my wife to follow with the camera. Then she got bored videoing sky and decided it would be more fun to video our daughter instead ! www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ9RFjt5X7c
