Slowly but surely - that seems to be my motto at the moment ;D The Prinz is coming along a little slower than I expected, but the planking has now commenced. I started with the two planks just above the waterline to fix the hull in proper shape and then continued with some of the bottom planks With that done, I cut the sandwich slices for the lower part of the stern with the centre prop and sanded the slices roughly into shape on my disc sander before they were glued togther I should now be able to plank around the lower stern section before getting ready to construct the bow and upper stern sandwiches.

I am now just over half way through the planking and it is looking good so far. Only one frame seemed to be 1mm out symmetrically where the hull bends toard the bottom It was only for the width of about 2 planks on each side, so that was easily fixed with a couple of small pieces of timber. Still need 6 planks at the bottom plus the last planks up to the railings Then of course I still have the bow and stern sandwiches to go before the hull is ready for sanding.

Wow looking good Poulw. It will be good to see this alongside the Richelieu, when it's finished.

I am actually thinking of bringing it up to Baz and take a picture of it next to his Bismarck

The planks are now finished up to the line where the is curving out. I have to stop planking at this point so I can sand the curved surface before I plank the "plane" top part as the two surfaces meet in a line like a sharp "V" at about 10 degrees.

I forgot to mention that I have used two dowels to fix the stern sandwich. This means that I can detach the stern and work on it separately with my disc sander A lot easier than having to control the whole hull - with the risk of unintentional damage.

Coarse contour sanding is now completed for the bottom part of the hull, and I have started planking the top part. In place is also the stern and the bow So, now for the coarse sanding of the top, stern and bow, and then the fine sanding for a couple of weeks.

Hi Poul
Its been a while and looks like you're going great guns with the 'Prinz' Just tremendous. Can't see myself even contemplating a build of her in the near future. Things are just too busy.

Thanks Baz, I am sure you'll get around to the Prinz eventually - you can't have your Bissy sitting by himself without his brother in arms Because PG is shorter and slimmer than Bismarck, it is also so much easier to handle and the work progresses much quicker than its does with a battleship. I wouldn't say that I go "great guns" with the Prinz at the moment. I have just had surgery and got out of hospital last week, but I still manage to do some work on the model every day, which in itself is very rewarding. The last plank on PG is now fitted, and I just need to do some minor work at the bow and the stern before final sanding/filler/etc. can start.

I hope you recover from your surgery quickly Poul. It amazes me how you manage to get a smooth finish from what looks like pine. I always thought that to be unsuitable for model making ! I was obviously completely wrong there
