It amazes me how you manage to get a smooth finish from what looks like pine. I always thought that to be unsuitable for model making ! I was obviously completely wrong there I always use pine for planking (but ONLY for planking) as I find it easy to cut (I cut my own planks) and steambend - and it is cheap. From one 4 foot 19x40mm piece of pine timber (around £1), I get around 20 four foot planks of 2x5.5mm. It is actually quite easy to find some 4 foot 18x40mm pieces of pine with fine straight grain and no knots at the local hardware supply. Sanding is also easy and you quickly get that smooth surface by using coarse sand paper. However, due to the soft/hard wood-mix in the timber, there is quite a bit of "fine tuning" in the end with filling and fine sanding. In one respect you are absolutely correct: Pine is unsuitable if you are making a timber hull model, which is not going to be painted.

One day Poul
Hope all is well with you after all these little setbacks you're having. I'll get my act together early summer and bring the Arados up for you to play with. Will check out PE's progress in person and bring Bissie if will travel.

Hi all, I haven't been on the board for a while, because no progress on my PG has really been made. As the saying goes, you need a good health to get through a hospital stay. Hopefully, with the warmer weather now approaching, I'll get a bit more energy back, so the 'shipyard' can start operating again

I can only echo what Eric said. I wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing your model progress. I hope you've got a new box of matches ready

Thanks guys,
It's always a start when I am again eager to have a look at what's going on in the forum.
The weather is now starting to warm up and it really helps on one's frame of mind.

Hello Poul,
awfull those strokes, I had a very minor one 3 years ago, still struggeling a little bit with typing (right letters, wrong order). Well people seem to work on other things but quoting the film "field of dreams"
"they will come if you build it"
If you post something here, I promisse to put something in for the S100 from Robert. It will be about the torpedo shot meachnism (just to trease everyone reading)

;D Hi Poul, Smackmback here,( Rob Shaw ) over the east coast. Have been building the Bissy for a fair while now off and on. more off than on, but got blood poisoning recently and have been slowed down for a while,,,, sooo going back to modelling again and you just sparked me into thinking of putting up thread for my new simultaneous scratch build, that being the fast destroyer THE HOOD. Dad just finished Australian Destroyer THE SYDNEY and he also is doing the hood from scratch. If you need plans I will get the address off dad. Dad (bob ) same name, scratch built THE MISSOURRI 3 metres long and 1.3 metres high.(BIG) So I will watch you thread keenly and I will post up some photos of the other ships as well as my Bissy progress. All shipswill be R/C (4) engines each. with all extra accessories moving and Lights. Bloody busy time ahead and making myself put the long hours in to get them done. Also have a SUB I have part started, WW11. here is my email if any one wishes to use.............. rjshawry@gmail.com
