24 lifeboats....they're made of 2 plastic parts each..

They sound like the easiest part of the whole kit unless of course you going to scrap them and scratch buld new ones out of wood ;D Your build is looking really great and the last pics you posted really show the size of her!

Are these funnels scratch built or from the partwork?

the funnels (made of 7 parts each) are supplied in the box except for the wire around the base and the antenna on the rear funnel. had to scratch build them by using 3mm round timber and copper wire... the rear funnel: funnels are removable to fill the smoke generators which will be mounted in the 10mm holes...it took ages until those funnel 'brackets" had the correct shape

reducing the weight at the top - i'm really concerned about the total weight of the ship, especially at the upper superstructure... why the hell did they supply hard (and heavy !!) timber blocks - to be mounted 15cm above the waterline...

You could lower the centre of gravity by taking out the fluorescent tubes: it might not add weight but it would remove lightness!
