Just got a plastic kit of the Heinkel He 162A-2 Salamander from Germany. Can't remember where on the board here I saw it, but it ties in with Swastika or no Swastika on the Bismarck deck.
There's a leaflet in the box with colour pictures of an original aircraft in a museum: the swastika on the tail has been squared off on the leaflet with a black marker. Also, there's a transfer sheet with markings for the USSR, France, the RAF, and Germany: the plastic bag is slit, and the swastikas obliterated. The laws against displaying NSDAP symbols still apply, and we have to respect that and the pain behind it.

I can understand why some would get upset over the swastika, but there are a lot of films with it in, so as to be historically correct, and lots of places/kits showing them outside of Germany. I personally cannot see why the model cannot have the correct flags providing it is for private use, to be respectful to others, then not shown on the model when out in the public eye. If the kit you mention was only for sale in Germany, then I can uderstand why the symbols were obliterated, but here in the UK and probably elsewhere, you can buy the correct decals from model shops anyway,so the exercise seems a bit over the top. Does anyone know if the maritime museum in London has models of german ships showing emblems?? Be interesting to know.

As a follow up, just looked at the Nat Matirime museum in London, they have a model of the Bismarck at 200 to 1 scale, flying the navy ensign (with swastika) on the stern, but not the deck markings!!! My model will probably follow suit.

Think I'll go with that version as well and if people don't like the flag they will have her 15" guns to deal with - rofl ;D ;D ;D
Ok being serious again, if the Nat Matirime museum in London can show the flag, then I can show it out here in public.

I can unnderstand the rules concerning the swastika in Germany to a degree but as for anywhere else, my personal view is that ppl who find it's display in a historic context to be offensive should not view said films or visit military type museums.
