I have a question for the German builders, please don't take the question as being nasty as it's not ment to offend anyone. I think the real Bismarck had a swastika painted on the fore deck, as it is illegal to display the swastika, how do you plan on getting round this. Check this web page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika to read about it even being removed from model kit boxes. As I've stated, I don't mean to upset anyone. I was just interested and with the discussion about how accurate the model will be when finished, I thought I would ask.

The Bismarck didn't carry the swastika for all it's life. You could model the ship at a period when it wasn't there if you want to maintain historical accuracy but don't want the symbol.
Personally I shall be including it if appropriate. I might think differently if my model was going on public display though.

The swastika is not illegal in the UK so there is very little the police could do, just take a tin of paint with you and paint it out if anyone objects.
Quick and easy solution, job done in seconds or use a pealable sticker to put over it and remove it when displaying the model in your own home.

But then again the ship did have the swastika for a longer length of time than it did not, but as ever with these things its a case of which version you want to depict and which you personally like and stuff those who might comment otherwise

In Germany you may not show the swastika in public. For your private at home it's ok. Bismarck had the swastika in a white circle with red border from march - may 41. When operation "Rheinübung" started, the red border was painted teak, just the swastica in a white circle. When Bismarck left Norway the swastica, circle and border was painted grey. Bismarck never had red or yellow tops of turrets. Prinz Eugen and Scharnhorst had for example. Uwe webmaster www.die-graue.flotte.de

Mindbender, Amati wrote in one of the first mails to me, they just will give good advice in painting/airbrushing the Bismarck. No template or whatever, just good advice. The best referance source for everybody in the net is John Asmussens website. The painting shemes are correct. My referances are based on books, original photos and documentations, a lot of stuff. I can recommend the german navy colour set of white ensign modells. I used this colours several times. They are pretty similar to the origin colours. Only problem is the red antifouling colour for hull, RAL 8013. Officially this colour does not exist anymore for several years. We have to mix it by ourself, using different colours of red, brown, black and white. Uwe webmaster www.die-graue-flotte.de

Fantastic model, A few of us built the DeAg Spitfire, mine is currently sitting in two parts behind the TV! I am looking at getting a Swordfish to build in the smale style, but will probably end up getting the Airfix one as space and funds are limited. If I may add if anyone wants to get a Airfix Swordfish then please buy it from the Royal Navy Historic Flight they are only £4 The flight are restoring two Swordfish to fly, they get very very little if any support from Govenment and are a very important part of our heritage. check out the web site here www.royalnavyhistoricflight.org.uk/
