Did any of you see the guy who did the gauze on Mayhem?? Is this an easy way just to buy the large mesh type stuff. I will try to find the link.

Which ever method you choose you should use something with either the waterproof PVA or Resin. The gauze is desined to keep all the planking together and prevent movement, glattfix alone wont do that

Tell you what is so much better to use than flippin a gauze bandage.... Self adhesive Plasterer's Scrim tape It looks very simliar to a gauze bandage but so much better in its application It comes as a roll, being self adhesive it stays in place whilst coating it, its very easy to cut and shape and is also made of fibregalss so its strong too, great combined with a waterproof PVA or Resin

B&Q sell it or get it via any builders merchant or most DIY stores, simply ask for "plasterers self adhesive scrim tape". Its a plasterboard jointing tape, not sure if there are different version's but the roll I got via a builders merchant was the fibrglass type, its very easy to handle and was called "Silver Scrim". Simply cut the scrim to size for each panel with scissors which is fairly easy as its about 50mm wide and as long as you need it. Then simply press it into place on the inside of the hull, if your not happy with the fit simply pull it off and re-apply, any surplus can be cut away with a sharp blade or scissors. Basically you are following the Hachette procedure but using scrim tape instead of gauze bandage. Finally coat the scrim with waterproof PVA or Resin working it into the gauze holes, job done time for a beer Then when you have finished the 2nd planking and sanding etc of the outer of the Hull then apply Glattfix to seal the hull on the outer as mentioned on this site.

Oh i forgot, the scrim i got there was no backing tape to remove before you apply it, its simply rolled upon its self as it is low tack, simply cut what you need from the roll, cut to shape & apply blah de blah

Hi,
Is it really necessary to go through this exercise? Rather concentrate to get it waterproof on the outside, and just paint the inside with a waterproof varnish (or paint)

Hi Wolfie, Welcome to the forum. That's exactly what I intend to do. You could use resin if you want to, but I just intent to use varnish.

I gave up on the gauze and used varnish instead... about three coats. Inside the bow I watered down some PVA and sloshed it around and poured off the excess.
