Thanks Paul for the link to the site. Looking further into it, in the models section are two superb models of the Bismarck at the same scale as ours. One costing next to nothing, static and took about 7 years to build! (but see all his pictures and also read his notes, especially in view of recent criticsms of "our" kit) Also Dieter Neumann has a model of the same scale, but it is also radio controlled, and in his pictures he has virtually reconstructed the final battle - needs to be seen! Unfortunately, it has taken him 20 years to build and improve, too long for my life span! If nothing else, if my model turns out to be fraction as good as theirs I shall be very happy. Please be inspired by them, and not put off as a gargantuan task.

Baron Burkard Von Mullenheim-Reichberg, Yep great book, I bought it over 20 years ago. He gives a great description of the loss of Hood, he watched her blow up from his post in the aft direction controller. He was also very lucky to survive at all as Rodney removed the director array from above his head with a 16inch shell!!
Good read. Eric

Hi nm According to the Bismarck history , The cost of Bismarck 196 m rm the cost of Tirpitz was a bit cheaper at 191 m rm mike Thanks. The reason I asked was that Richard J Evans in "The Third Reich in Power, page 384, lists some sources of Hitler's income: 1.2 million rm in 1933 for royalties on Mein Kampf; from 1937 he claimed royalties (good word!) for the use of his portrait on postage stamps (one cheque was for 50 million); fees and royalties when a speech was quoted in the papers. His salary was 29,200 plus 18,000 expense allowance - he publicly renounced both to show a spirit of selfless dedication. I was wondering what 50 million would buy. Answer: A lot! nm
