Hi Tanus,
thanks for the tip. I'm using car body filler at the moment which isn't bad, but I like the idea of putty that comes off with metho. I might have to give it a go. Is it very expensive?
Yes I plan to make a visit to the QMHE at some stage.
cheers

Well the new crew has turned up. I must say, pretty impressive looking bunch. The foreman doesn't say much, but seems to have a breathing issue, asthma or something, but the crew all seem to do whatever he says, that's the main thing. They even have a couple of HR guys to smooth any disputes over. The best thing is, they even bring their own site office. Keeps travel time to a minimum. They got straight to work, but like any work crew always have a few pranks up their sleeve, you know, pass me the left handed spanner, drop the 32 ton turret on the worker etc.. They even cleaned the work yard which I am very happy about. I think with these guys on board things will start to move pretty quickly again. Contractually they just wanted use of the ship for a little pleasure cruise, when it was finished, which I was more than happy to agree to. cheers Rod

Hi Rod, .....If u use stop putty from autobarn, you can fill your turret gaps, and it will come off with meths,so any you get arround your rivets you can take off, without ruining any detail..... Tanus. Just a remark re. stop putty. I am using it as well, and it has a very fine texture suitable for fine details. However, it also has a quite a shrinkage (usually over 24 hours of an application), so it has to be applied 2-3 times before a small gap becomes unnoticeable. So, a bit of patience is required.

Well this is always a good test on how well your hull has gone together. Trying to align the preprinted decking. Overall from a distance its fine, but up close there are a few seams that aren't quite matching. How have people handled this? Especially the gaps? In this photo this is the gap between th foredeck piece and the main forward superstructure piece. Sanding won't solve the problem, more than likely create a bigger gap. Anyone done anything crafty? I think this has been caused by my over zealous sanding of the atlantic bow. And whats with the aft superstructure decking pieces? The preprinted lines don't quite match up. I guess I should be grateful they aren't too bad.. I think this has been caused by my over zealous sanding of the atlantic bow. any suggestions welcome. Rod

Rod,
I had a similar problem and decided to sand the deck sections to achieve the correct alignment. I knew this could end in tears so I clamped a steel rule to the deck so I could use it as a straight edge. This worked quite well so perhaps you could give this a go. I did have the benefit of a spare section of deck to experiment with though!
I also had the same alignment issue with the rear sections and can only assume its a printing error. I doubt it will be noticeable when the turret is fitted.

My railings arrived from the UK this week. I must say, very low cost but quality is fine. I bought 2 sets. Only took about 5 days from placing an order and arriving - not bad for a round the world trip. Got them from John R Haynes ship models. I think I'll be buying more product from them in the future - very good service.

I also ordered these last sunday, just received them this morning. 6 days to New Zealand. Not bad at all.

Started doing one of the Hangars this weekend. I needed some easy therapy after the ill fitting brass on the turrets. The Hangars seem to go together very nicely. Now I just have to do the other one. cheers Rod

Hi Mike,
I rearranged the decking a little bit to try and minimise the gaps and its not looking too bad. There is now a small crack towards the rear of the decking pieces but with a bit more playing I think I can resolve it.
I see your boat is coming along very nicely - well done.

I ran out of masking tape yesterday (the gato used two whole rolls of the stuff) so i went down to the local hardware store (bunnings) and was about to buy my usual roll worth $16 a pop when I spied a cheap roll sitting there. $4.00, twice as wide and twice as long. I thought - wow - that's too good to refuse so grabbed it and this is the result... I'll say it before anyone else does - "you only get what you pay for".... sigh.. well all is not lost - I can give the dog the masking tape as a chew toy, she loves the stuff. (Having previously lost a $16 dollar roll to her) Rod
