Yes very nice indeed Netties.. You need to share some painting tips and perhaps tell us what kind of paint you used.

From when we first started doing the planking I sanded the planks so there was not too much to do at the very end. I know that we dont need to do all the paintwork untill way on in the series at about issue 130, but psycologically if you have it looking great then you will keep up the standard....... I used the DULUX brand of spray paint in a can. Used primer all over hull, about 6-7 coats here which equates to 3 cans. lots of sanding sanding sanding in between using finer and finer sandpaper. Keep can about 25cm away from boat. Colours - Black, White, Mid Grey for the ends, Dusk Grey for the middle of the boat, Heritage Red for the bottom. Pick your days for painting outside, I used windy days for some parts as the wind carried the overspray away for me. Use SCOTCH brand masking tape - the purple one with low tack for sensitive work. Its sort of waxy and as you peel the tape off you will notice the clean sharp lines. No mater what area you are painting - even if its very small, mask the whole boat over. Its a lot of work but the rewards are worth it. In two weeks time we start the brass work so I will be using solder for a lot of mine and very fine surgical clamps that we use for ear surgery ect.... to position parts. A magnifying headset with lamps as well will be the equipment of the day.

Into the first 5 sets of brass work now here in New Zealand. I am tempted to get some of the railings that Markus can source and attach these to the hull approx $150 NZD. I will make a paper template of the deck so I can store hull it away for a while, while I work on the superstructure. All my brasswork will be soldered.

Successful soldering of the first of my brass side panels. I have used a fine tip soldering iron which is temperature controlled, and the very minimal of solder. I fixed the panels all together using a rubber band to the position they will be on the superstructure, and just very lightly touch soldered the hand rails. Then carefully take apart and solder on the INSIDE along the seam. When you look at the other part that shows there is just a fine hairline solder seam. No cleaning up to do, nice clean lines. I will do the brass panels this way and only glue with araldite crystal 5 min glue the porthole hatches. This is very time consuming. Also I will cut out the main hangar door and have an aircraft with its wings folded part inside / outside. this will look great on the completed model.

Hi Nettie, why do you want to solder them - does it give a better result than glue. I'm not sure I understand the advantage?

soldering is really hard on parts like these, and I doubt it'll give the desired effect. I'd probably glue it on like everyone else, and fill the gaps with soem easy to sand filler spplied with a sanded toothpick... but it's your own choice of course

Soldered the second of the catapults last night. Has come out very well. The first of the catapults has not arrived here in NZ, but hopefully the next few weeks this will turn up. I have made my model in stages with locating dowels as well so as I get it spot on I know as I assemble it will allways be in the same location. All looks like a lego system now. you may well ask WHY am I soldering and adopting this approach - lots of little fingers and 2 naughty cats may well spell disaster to this project. Soldering is very fiddly and the catapult took me 3 hours last night. Pics to follow.....

Might see if a fine wire will look ok on the wheel pulley system to look more complete.
