I'm a bit puzzled by this hangar door. There seems to be only one door which is slid from port to starboard, agreed? This therefore implies that the planes always use the same port aperture. One photograph shows the door in the halfway position with the starboard side blanked off as per the model implying to me that this wall is solid. However, both sides of the hangar show doors above the main doorway for the tailplanes of the aircraft. Does the 'blank wall' also move across to port behind the main door?

As far as I know, the left door (as we look at it) slides behind. Got to go, off to the rugby. Reckon you're spot on Bry 1 door slides on the inside, the other on the outside. Otherwise doors would have to swing. And................. if you notice, exactly as Nettie has shown, both sides have swing doors above the sliding section for the Arado's high tail section to get in and out So don't panic Nettie I think you have it right And you can have that side open. The small door that the tail section go's through, I wonder how they got the slide rail to open. The rail that holds the whole door [track].

WEEK 57Hangar all done as far as the door is concerned, I wont open up the top piece where the tail makes clearance. To go any further with working on this part may result in disaster. Its very fiddly. Pictures.....

Takes a little more time. I see about issue 123 & 124 we get two aircraft. I'll put one with its wings folded up in the hangar, and the second on the catapult. That is another year away for us here in NZ.

It sure is fiddly... And you demonstrated to master the assembly extremely well, Netties. I would never have dared myself mangling the PE part, but the detail of the sliding door is one small detail that makes the whole difference. Very well done. Have a âKâ for your imaginative creativeness!

How did you cut it?
I was thinking maybe you plunged cut with a dremmel type saw into the PE.

Thanks for the comments. To cut out the PE and wood section I used one of those snap off blade knives. Nothing fancy - but just go very slowly a little at a time.

WEEK 58Done these parts yesterday. Next week we get a plastic moulding to make the railings easy to bend, but thats not needed as all you have to do is mould it around something thats on a taper. I could'nt wait another week for this part. Once again, I did not glue the railing ends together - I cant see glue keeping them together for long, so I soldered the ends together. Of course you have to glue the brass to the plastic. I also glued a map pin up the centre of each part so its easy to handle, and locates in the position on the model.

At the beginning I religiously followed the instructions, and thus built my hangar before I found the site with Peter Benheims excellant model on it. He had opened up the hangar door and had an aircraft half way in. For months, I was trying to work out a way of opening my hangar door without wrecking it, and thanks to Netties, I have now succeeded: Well worth a Karma Netties!
