Hello.
I've a problem with my second planking. I used long strips for the first row, but I've noticed that on one side the strip seems to have slipped so that the top is now about 1mm from the top of the first planking where the step for the armour belty is in the hull.
Any ideas on how I can remove the step would be much appreciated. Filler?
Chris

Hi Chris, I messed up my first planking cos I did,nt follow the instruction,s, (got it sorted!), I had to strip back the second planking to rectify the problem but in your case 1mm isn,t a huge problem, therefore, you need to ask yourself will it be noticable on the finished model!!, best regards!

Thanks Jager. My plan is to use some filler just to build it up slightly, then sand it smooth. It shouldn't be noticeable (apert from to me!).

what if you took a plank or two, cut off a 1mm strip (using a metal ruler) and glued that on?
With filler you may have a job getting the nice sharp edge.

Thanks Eric.
On closer inspection it's probably less than a milimetre, so I don't think I could cut a plank sufficiently finely...

I just soaked a plank in boiling water for 10 Min's, then bent it over the small extra wooden stern piece not required and pinned it in place 'till next day, worked a treat.
Yeah me! I've finished second planking tonight! Now for a marathon sanding session!

Hi achtung, I got my amonia from a local store called Charlies that sells everything, I'm sure if theres one of these type of store near you they will have it. Using the amonia was my fourth attempt having tried boiling water and steam but plank broke every time. However with the amonia I could almost bend the plank double without breaking it.

I was looking at various threads here, trying to remind myself what people had said about ammonia.
Pharmacies were mentioned as a good source. No idea on how their prices compare.

Hi all, been a while since last post (a reformatting of a hard drive and Xmas hols will do that (Happy new year to all by the way!)
Well just started 2nd layer of planking last night, luckily noticed that i started with the middle of the plank rather than the end of the plank for the first one, i.e. i was putting the first plank, how i should have put the first of the second line, therefore i would have gotten all of my second layer wrong!!
luckily i hod only done 3 planks, so they could be peeled off. Using pins and a small jewlers hammer to lightly hold the planks, seems okay.
Hopefully get it done by end of week, to be ready for my next delivery of 4 issues!

Issue#35 and second planking comming up, I thought I would check to see that ship was shipshape, so to speak. I noticed that my ship had developed a clear warping so that a 2-3mm gap could be seen under the keel. I reasoned that untill this was put right, no further planking should be attempted. Therefor; I steamed the hull inside and out, then weighted down the hull (with decks in situ) with one full 5L can of paint at each end, some 2L milk bottles (containg water) a 5lb pad hammer, and other heavy odds and ends. If it aint flat bottomed after a couple of days of that, then I give up! Could you tell me what the outcome of your efforts were to correct the warping of your keel. I ask because i have got the same problem.

I'm beginning to find this planking very therapeutic, for what though I'm not quite sure. Just finished issue 35 and attached stern resin piece 70/a . Looks good so far. As for new issues , received 41-44 in post this morning , so lots of building ahead, weeknd looks fairly cloudy so will take some pics and start the long awaited build diary, if I may be so bold.
