www.loyalhannadockyard.com/This company sells a huge selection of brass propellers, drive shafts, motors, rc gear, fittings, etc. for projects just like this. I have a drive system custom built in a 32nd pt boat that this guy helped me design that runs like a champ and is whisper quiet at twenty miles an hour. A little faster than you'll want your Bismarck to run but a setup for this model would be even quieter.

nice site - but there's still one little problem: the smallest shafts have 4mm diameter, unfortunately this i the maximum diameter you can drill into the formed parts from hachette without braking them - this especially for the supports of the outer drive. (have a look at the poster from issue 1 and you'll see what i mean) my first tests with the inner drive and a 4mm shaft / 6mm tube were a mess. i broke 3 of those formed parts for the inner drive while trying to get a 6mm hole in. (this part has 7mm diameter where the prop shaft ends) thats why i built all these drives with a 2mm shaft / 4mm tube markus

He will custom build drive shafts to any specification, on his site he gives a phone number for you to talk to him in person, he has a huge amount of experience in these projects and is very helpful. The outside diameter of the shaft stuffing tube on the pt was just over six millimeter but I think he could probably get a little smaller than that. The shafts are very nice, glass smooth with no friction, oil reservoir fill tubes to keep the water out and such. It's worth it to give him a call. You may have to do a little building up of the area on the hull where the shaft exits to be able to make a larger hole. The skegs may have to be redone entirely out of brass which is something else he can build for you or advise you on. Quality friction free shafts are a must. Also among that huge selection of props you will find the proper size and type of brass prop to duplicate scale appearance and function.

i didn't mean his parts are no good... but i went the easy way and didn't use custom-made parts, except for the motor support bracket.
all other parts are universal parts - to be used where they fit so they're of course cheaper
i used these parts before in my titanic, no problems...

Even his custom work is not that expensive, though a person might have to wait a couple weeks for the order.

delivering of drive sets is max. 5 days after receiving payment - no matter if ordered directly or via ebay
this because i have all items in stock
if anybody orders additional parts (like speed controllers or whatever which i have to order myself) delivering may take 2 weeks

a straight line is not essentially necessary because the cardan joints have a working angle of 10 degrees. but it makes the whole drive more noiseless...
