Thanks markus for your help, some people put a capacitor across the motor terminals, and one from each terminal to the motor casing have you any experience of that. I guess they are using the motor casing as ground.

I guess they are using the motor casing as ground. that's right - additional capacitors from each terminal to motor housing are needed, too. these should have a capapacity of 47nF speed400 motors that come with the drive sets have these both capacitors already built in. markus

The available Hachette RC pack is to cost £125 inc P+P for the UK.
Orders can be placed from issue 23 via the enclosed leaflet, a £10 deposit is required at the time of order leaving a balance of £115, on receipt of the full balance customers will receive the RC pack when issue 58 goes on sale, presume this is when germany will also get there's??
The UK RC pack is identical to the RC pack on offer in Germany, Graupner motors, Thunder Tiger 2-channel 40Mhz AM radio set, V40R ESC, 6Volt 4.5ah Battery & Charger & same running gear/props/rudders etc.
There is a disclaimer saying 'items may vary from those shown'.
If you want to see the detail of this pack then have a look at the german preview home page and click on "Vorzugsangebot/Preferential offer"

Sorry it's me, got 55 stuck in my head dunno why ;D
While you are around, did you simply use the glattfix product on the inside of your hull and nothing else?
Reason why I ask is I know the PVA & gauze method is awful to apply but so is resin & tissue, but surely the gauze is for stopping movement of the planking, glatfix alone wont do that will it as presumably its a thin liquid?
Or did you use resin and tissue after the glatfix, but does it not then make it a bit pointless in applying the glatfix?

I personally use the resin without the tissue. This makes it easy to apply using and old paint brush, laid on fairly thickly. This stiffens the hull and makes it waterproof. This is now my 3rd floating model using this technique over a period of 15 years with no adverse effects. It also has the advantage that I ran the resin down into the bow section through small holes drilled in part 35, twisting and turning the hull so that the resin runs evenly over the planking in the box section. The tissue would of course make the hull even stronger, but as we are second planking this seems to be a bit over the top. Tissue is also difficult I find to set in place removing all the air bubbles.

Hmmm so it makes one wonder what the purpose of the gauze is as it is not this that does the sealing it is the waterproof PVA. Could it be that the idea of the gauze is to hold the inner planking as one and to prevent movement, if so then glattfix on the inner hull falls short of that against the resin & tissue method or even PVA & guaze. Maybe a good idea would be to use resin & a fibreglass matt for the inner hull and use glattfix for the outer, this will then seal the areas such as the extreme Bow where it is inaccessible for effective sealing

.....glatfix alone wont do that will it as presumably its a thin liquid? it's not that thin, just like paint. for some strange reason this stuff doesn't stay on the wood's surface, it really goes into the wood glattfix makes wood strong AND watertight cheers markus

Markus, I have just ordered some Glattfix, Did you paint it onto the first planking layer prior to the second layer going on, or is it enough just to paint it onto the second layer? Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks
Eric.

DO NOT paint it onto the first layer, otherwise you might encounter problems gluing the 2nd layer when gluing with pva glue i would suggest to apply one coat on the inside after having the 2nd planking finished. the day after you can apply 2 or 3 coats on the outside. just make sure to wait 1 hour between applying the outside coats. needed amount for this treatment is approx. 0,2 litres additionally, a little sanding with fine sandpaper between every coat gives a real smooth finish i would also suggest to apply one coat of primer before putting the hull into the water markus

Cheers Markus, Thanks for the info! I've already coated the inside with resin, except for the flooring which I have left untouched so I can glue in place the wooden parts for the R/C. I'll Glattfix the remaining bits as you suggest.
Thanks again
Eric

I just got my tins of Glattfix, it smells like the dope you put on model aircraft wings and fusalage......If I was a bit high on the resin, God knows what THIS stuff will do to me......YIPPEE!!!! (I shall, of course, apply the paint in a very well ventalated room...) ;D
