Hah yeah I do have a headlight. Mum got it for me for xmas and i was like wtf But it actually has come in very handy, specially with the Airfix airplanes I am building. Yeah I will do a load of pictures for you Chill when I extend the planking. Have you seen swanrails information in his modifications and tips thread? Doesn't seem too hard, just gonna be tricky as the wood is quite long, so 2 man job.

Matrix
A few posts back you were saying you were concerned at getting the super structure to fit due to the camber of your deck.
Pin a sheet of sandpaper where the super structure will be placed then run the super structure back and forth on the sand paper and this will sand a matching camber to the superstructure resulting in a neat fit.
Hope this helps

Thanks Trev will give that a go, although after a bit of sanding the deck is almost flat so it maybe I don't have to do to much sanding to the superstructure.

Right I thought I would post a little update as I am pretty much finished with the Fordeck Modification. I am leaving off sticking anything down until I have completed my second layer of planking and Glattfixed the whole thinga as that way I have access to the inside at the very front of the hull. I have also done a pic of my second planking and for some reason it is not smooth even though when glueing the planks were pinned flat. It just means a stupid amount of sanding when I have finished the second layer . So here are the pics: Foredeck Joined to main deck: Close up of Top of Foredeck:Shot at 2008-02-22 Close up of Bottom of Foredeck showing how I joined it to the Main deck:Shot at 2008-02-22 Couple of Shots of my second planking:

Looking good there afkmatrix, interesting shape of your foredeck though. Own design or from the magazine ?

Looking good, AFKMATRIX. However, if you had used my suggestion of the sellotape instead of pins, you would have found that the sellotape pulls the thin planking around the curve of the hull, and in my case, virtually no sanding needed (the danger of sanding thin planks is that it does not take much to go right through!!!). Else, well done!

Its based on the Fordeck modification that Swanrail and David have done. There is a further bit I forgot to take a pic of that will be stuck down and then this part shown will be butted up to it but removable. If you look in Swanrails Modification thread you will see what it will eventually look like by looking at Swanrails version.

Hi Skyfire, see mine and Davids reasons for the modified foredeck, it is to get rid of the ugly crack across the deck where the removable bit comes out!!!!

Yeah well I have had a little go at sanding and I think it should be fine I will just take it easy and start from the stern and work my way forwards. Be interested to see how Markus's planking turned out as he used pins too.

Ahh ok swanrail, think thats something I could live with, though the line where the removable section and the foredeck is very narrow on my build.

That looks excellent Afkmatrix, I shall also be modifying the forward deck, but not for a long time, as I shall wait 'till I get the apropriate decking from hachette, so I put it in the right place!
Your planking will sand down fine, are you ensuring there is no glue overspill preventing the next plank sitting flat? I had to carve out dried glue often before the next plank was attached.....tedious but helpfull.

Yeah I was watching for glue over spill Eric and as far as my poor eyes could see there was none. But its done now so will just have to take a deep breath and get sanding.

Looking good so far. It's also good to see somone with a workbench just like mine (ie untidy) It seems to be tidy one minute and then somthing happens while I'm making a coffee. My builds being done in the loft and I'm begining to think they may be Gremlins up there. LOL.

Well I got kicked out of the lounge and into the Shed its not soo bad, my only problem is I have to bring the model in at night to allow the glue to set as it doesn't work properly in anything below 7 degrees C and we have been having feezing nights. But its good in the long run as I can do wood filling and the Glattfix without stinking up the house for hours lol.

People just don't understand. My wife thinks i'm odd because I make model boats. whereas I think all the people who don't make them are really weird. Just hope when mines done I can get it through the hatch?
