It worked - and it looks very good !! Sanding the frames is not that bad - just take your time. Best to do the sanding, leave it a day and then come back and check it again. It's amazing how often you say to yourself, oops - missed a bit there - didn't do that bit very well, etc.

Great start Skyfire and I agree with Mark, take your time with the prep work. I spent a few days sanding and checking I had a good even surface before starting the planking.

Hi Skyfire, looks very professional, planking not so bad as you might think. Did your bits come by rail? lol

Looking good Skyfire. Might I suggest that you have a good look at the mods we have been carrying out, as some of these are easier done before you get too far into the build, such as the 3rd. workable prop (if you intend going that way), and I have just modified my model so that the foredeck gap now occurs where the first breakwater is - makes the hull more watertight and the deck planking easier. A lot depends on whether you are staying static, or builing the r/c version of course.

Hi Skyfire, looks very professional, planking not so bad as you might think. Did your bits come by rail? lol They tried to deliver by rail, but found the railyard had been taken over and the rails pulled up, so final delivery was by truck along a very narrow twisty country lane. Inspite of massive complaints by the locals not much is being done until the build is complete to bring back the trains. lol ;D

An update on the build, I have started the decking 1st. lol Only beacause it's easier and yes it will be removable as I want to motorise the radars and add working lights with the batteries and leds in the hull and maybe in the future 2 motors.

That looks great skyfinre. Yeah don't rush anything as others have said, Personally I don't even remember sanding my ribs down!! Mind you I only found this forum at issue 35 But luckily all went well with the first layer of planking. I am about ready to tear my hair out for the second layer of planking, I want to do some superstructure work!! lol. I will be posting some pics up soon in my Build log as I have just recieved Markus's motors and they look awesome!! I have soooo much sanding to do on my second layer of planking though as you shall see Anyway keep on going it looks like ur doing great!!

So that is how you are getting yopur Bismarck to water then??? Yeah thats how I'll do it, think I might need to modify the trailer though, it looks a bit short. Hope it can take the wieght of the complete Bismarck. - rofl The prime mover is a Kenworth, not sure who by, but I think Tamiya. It's not the r/c version and it's not designed to be.
