keep the forum going, far too many friends on here to lose if it stops. Maybe somehow keep the awards going as well, (with maybe a hall of fame for those that have won in the past - just a thought). Maybe change the name of them to "Modellers Awards" or something. Chill you wouldn't have to keep running them, if I had the funds I would takeover. Like others have said, expand on the other models section, but keep the hints, tips and the rest of the non-Bismarck specific things as they will be a big help to lots of people. Also keep the Bismarck build diaries, there fun to look back over.

Dear Mark Please don't let it die. Aside (and quite a biggie in its own right) from the other models that keep coming along (e.g. the new earth/moon orrery) and that people are building, there is a wealth of information on this site about building kits and scratch building, radio control, etc. I, for one, have become hooked on this as the Hachette Bismarck, for all the niggles, funny ordering of issues, etc., is superb and I hope that they will follow up with a suitable replacement. At least wait and see if there is a follow-on (Hood, Yamato, Graf Spee, Nelson, Rodney, etc., etc., possibly in a slightly bigger scale, such as 1:150, to make it easier to get all the radio controls in, or even a small steam plant !).

Thanks for all the responses guys. Given the two choices are evolve or die, it's clear that evolve is the popular choice.
I need to think about the best way to evolve the forum. I think it needs to broaden its horizons well before we start to lose contributors as the Bismarcks are completed. I firmly bellive that forums have a critial mass. Above a certain number of members and the forum grows, to few members and a permanent decline will set in. Obviously we need to keep well above this critical mass.
First thing I'm going to do is post a poll asking where people found out about about this forum. I.e. Where are the members coming from.
Second step will be to re-organise the forum, making it more suitable for a wider audience. This may well include re-naming the forum. I plan on evolving the forum slowly rather than making a step change as I don't want to change the atmosphere here.
Any more thoughts on how I can re-arrange the furniture woudl be appreciated.

Hi mark I would like to see the forum carry on. Yes we are all building the Bismarck but the majority are building other model as well and its nice to see how other people get along, and sort out their problems. I am a railway man myself and could not have got this far doing Bismarck without the help and surgestions on the site. Colin

I think a lot of people will be busy with building the Bismarck for quit some time, like the Dutch and Belgium (where they just started) members. We still got some years(!) to go and could really use the knowledge present here.
I think a start could be to add a more substantial part for other models and a name change to get members who don't build the Bismarck in.

I agree with all the above comments. This forum has settled into the perfect voice for us "amateur modellers" I think that the forum should be re-named and the Bismarck incorporated as one of the many models now being built. Here is my suggestion as the starting point for ideas in developing a "new" forum.
PARTWORK & GENERAL MODELLERS FORUM
General INTRODUCTIONS TECHNICAL QUERIES RADIO CONTROL PARTWORK PREVIEWS BIRTHDAYS OFFICERS MESS HINTS & TIPS JOKES
Model building DISCUSSIONS ON SPECIFIC MODELS BUILD DIARIES - BOATS BUILD DIARIES - OTHER MODELS
This is purely a starting point suggestion for comment and improvement.

The above listings sound good. I will make a promise to start on my spitfire to run in conjunction with my Bissy build as I have Wednesdays free at the mo -would kill the time and I dont have any montary issues on this as I have all the issues to hand. So i can contribute to the other model build diaries.
