OK - thinking a long way ahead now. We've got about 10 months of issues to come, and I know a lot of us aren't going to be finished the week after 140 lands on the doorstep However, there will be a time when most of us finish, and interest in the forum will wane. What do you guys think the future of the forum should be. Move on to a new model ? Change the forum into a general modelling forum ? Let it die a natural death ? If the later, then so be it - it will have served it's purpose. If it's going to live on, then I probably need to start thinking about the future format now. Any thoughts ?

Don't let it die, please, Mark!
As a first thought, why not keeping threads such like "hints & tips," which would group together posts left on this forum as on vacu-forming, glues, for example that everybody could access at any time? Also the RC corner, paintings, diaries of any boats, etc...
Just an idea... C'mon to the rescue boys!!!
Cheers, Robert

I feel it would be sad to let the forum die and loose all these freinds I've made of the years.
We all will build other models, and maybe partwork ones at that.
Not to mention the fact that many members in other countries are nowhere near as far along as we are and will not be finished until a year or two after us and would perhaps still want to benefit from some of the experienced modelers as all us newbies here have.
I reckon there would be enough modeling interest to keep it going.

Please dont let it die. You lot have helped me on numerous occasions and it would be good to keep it as a general modelling forum. Having sections on painting techniques of all sorts of models would be very good, and general building discussions

That's a reassuring message (not that I was looking for reassurance ) However, for the forum to survive it will have to evolve. I've seen several forums of a similar nature fade away despite many members saying that it should carry on. Any suggestions as to what direction it should take.

I (for one) am hoping to get the complete kit if/when it comes out in a few years. For people like me it would be great if this forum still existed (like the Titanic Build Diary).
Maybe one of the hotspots on the Links page could lead to some new build that would interest a fair number of the present members. Time will show what will be available. (Cutty Sark?)

to be honest, i often wondered what will be once our kit is finished but this forum mustn't die - many of us made really good friends on here i'm sure this forum can live on as a general (ship) model forum markus

I think it wil carry on forever. And anyways at the end of the 140 issue run i was going to post my hotmail/email addy to keep in touch with everyone.
And an indication of how it is evolving is on the 'other models section' we have the solar system, Flying Scotsman so on so forth. Could always expand that section out. I have a spitfire ready to start (second bite of the cherry so to speak!)

...as we already know there is a popular Model boat forum here in the UK, but our site here has gone and continues to grow world wide, let in grow in scope and the friendships that have been built remain, not to mention the models we have built and will build together.

ohh no NO.. please Mark don't let this forum drop down. This Hachette / Armati model was the opportunity for many guys to build their first wood model (at least their first big wood model) As Robert says we are rookies and we often appreciate (that's not to say we need) the knowhow of "model builders Yoda" that you are. And i've only got issue 55. Still a long way to go... What's more I felt on that forum kind friendship and cooperation i have never felt on other forums. I undersand that if this forum remains stuch to the BISMARCK it could become boring to you if it goes on months after you have finished your Bissie. But enlarging the section "other models" could be a solution. Anyway please don't 'let this Bissie builders community die

Hi Mark, like the comments above, I think that this forum has already spread away from just the Bismarck to many other types of models, nautical and non-nautical. It is also building up a lot of hints and tips which are generic and not necessarily specific. Perhaps it could become "A Model makers friendly forum"? Certainly as others have suggested, it would be a travesty to lose all the friends that we have gathered over the past 2 years. Basically, keep the same format, with perhaps making sections for each model with each having its own hints and tips and progress diaries, and other more general sections as you have now for day to days things such as the joke section, birthdays, management, etc. So in other words, just a few gentle bits of tinkering, if its not broke, dont fix it!! Many thanks for what you have achieved so far, it is a brilliant forum and very comforting to know that I am not then only one struggling with the brass bits and the lack of logic by Hachette in the build!!!!
