Hi, I have finished the hull and it is currently painted, but i have noticed that over time the bow has sunk, literally, instead of having the distinct upwards slope on the bow the deck is completely flat, and the bow has lowered, is there any way of fixing this? i was thinking of perhaps 'steaming' it and hopefully push it back up, will this work? or will the paint stop it?
i'd aprreciate some help, thanks

i really dont know what to say to help but i'd imagine with the hull painted any sort of artifical work like your saying will only succeed in cracking all the paint , maybe try strip paint first, and look at it again, tough one , good luck. and welcone to the forum, dont worry though some of the experts will sort out something for you , im sure jcmanu

Hi Daniel, just how bad is the hogging?
When you have your hull sitting on a flat surface, how much of a gap is there under the hull? Have you tried sitting it on a flat surface with weights inside to slowly push it back into shape?
Anyone else any thoughts about this?

haha, to jcmanu i am on issue 80, and its all built up to issue 80 completely, i'm only 16 so i have had plenty of time to make it during my summer holidays before i started college
and eric there is about a half inch gap, enough to make it rock from side to side, i'll try and weigh it down with some heavy books or something
thanks eveyone

Not too much weight Daniel, just enough to slowly press it down over time.
Can I ask how you store the hull when not working on it? I always have it sitting flat and supported along it's full lenght, not on its cradle.
I am not sure about steaming it.....it would depend on what type of glue you used, you could inadvertently disassemble it if it's not the water resistant kind!
At the last resort, you may have to take off all the planking and replank with the hull supported in the correct shape. Hope it doesn't come to that.
Guys....any ideas?

ok cheers Eric, i've put some weight on it, and i've slowly built it up and it seems to be working, the gap has shrunk a small amount and its not rocking as much, i'll leave it until the morning. I'm at college now and i have lots of homework so i think i will never to get time to replank it or anything so this will have to do, as long as it resembles the Bismarck when its finished i'm happy

Thats good, Daniel!
I'd keep some of the weight in the hull for some time, maybe a couple of weeks at least, with the hull fully supported along its length. Just to make sure she hold the shape.
