Hi Chill, I think the bandage is more for strength that waterproofing. The paint on the outside of the hull should provide the waterproofing. If it doesn't then you will get water soaking into the planks, and the model will not last very long before the hull starts to degrade, paint will peel, etc.

Ah,hadnt thought of the paint having to be waterproof -DUH!!! Going to lie down now. for my modelships i used "glattfix" from graupner, a german model supplier(www.graupner.de). this clear wood additive gives a totally even and waterproof surface which can be easily sanded. it also improves the strength of the whole hull markus

Just make part 41 flush with the top, so the deck is flat. You can sand the keel so that it lines up with the bottom of part 41 before we start planking. Have a look at the photos on week 10 on my web site. www.buildthebismarck.co.uk/010.htmWhich part is part 58 ? I can't remember which that is ?

According to the instructions on page 23, you draw a line exactly level with the keel and then glue to this line, in which case the two parts 58 will be flush to the keel.

When the frame is finished it needs to be sanded so that the planks sit flat against the frames and keel all over, so you will need to sand the keel. It's easier to do once you have the planks to hand. Then you can try the planks against the frames and see how they are sitting.

Re parts 58, think it is an optical illusion, due to laser cut edge being burnt. Have fitted mine as per instructions and they fit flush to keel. Very slight sanding of edges needed to fit hull contour for planking. I think the idea of part 58 is to make a watertight bulkhead so that any water leaking from the prop tube will not be able to enter the main hull. (presuming its going to be the r/c model as mine will be). See issue 14 on the German link for what fits onto the 58's, so its going to be hidden anyway!

Yes, that's right Chris. The deck sweeps up towards the bow and the stern. If you place the hull upside down on a flat surface you should see the curve clearly - there is quite a gap between the deck midships and the floor. (If you see what I mean)

I guess so, but I don't think they have had that part in Germany yet. Not sure about the rudders either.
