The head of a small needle may work better as the eye should hold the glue like a paint brush. Haven't tried that one yet. See hints and tips for more detail on this method.

Hi. Don't know if anybody has mentioned this yet, but you can get solder paste that you paint onto the parts then heat up with soldering iron. Some people may find this easier than regular solder and it would probebly be less fiddley. Im going to wait till my first etched parts arrive and take it from there... Is this the kind of stuff you mean> www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=4119So you just use a paint brush to put his on the brass parts, push them together and then heat it with a soldering iron?

This stuff is flux. Apply it to the brass and it helps the solder flow onto the brass. The stuff we're talking about here is solder paste which is a paste containing soler and flux. Here is a link to one version, but I'm sure there are many others. I've never used solder paste, or the company linked to - it was just the first result Google returned !! www.mrtechservices.co.uk/section.php?xSec=37

Ref the solder paste, have found this site: www.conrad-direct.co.ukthey are selling solder paste at £1.99 per tube, so have ordered three to try out to see if OK. Have also read the detailed info on solder pastes on another site, it has quite a short life, must be refrigerated and if in a tub, liable to oxidisation!! Really meant for PCB flow soldering, not soldering irons! However, the site above seems to suggest their paste is OK for hand soldering, so will give it a go and report back! (will use the Flying Scotsman part 1 as a test bed as I do not intend proceeding with the build!).

For my plastic to wood, I used Evo-Stick multi-purpose IMPACT instant contact adhesive, it's from B&Q. Red tube 30g. It's good, but it smells until it's dry. Says low odour, but it's not.
It's got a good hold, tried pulling it apart yesterday, to test strength, no way is it coming away. Only problem is that it's toxic to aquatic organisms, so if my boat sinks I will kill all the fish in the pool.

Rather off topic of soldering paste, but just finished issue 32, yippee back on track. I have been getting extras ready for etching work, ie soldering iron and such, as I haven't done any in years, but with my accent when I asked for a soldering iron the bloke looked at me like I was from another planet, always get that, or they think I'm irish. robert

Just a short note on behalf of the ozzie contingent. We are now beginning the aft superstructure, so I expect we all will be a bit quiet over the next few weeks because construction seems to be straight forward. Those of us purchasing weekly copies from the Newsagent have received part 27. As for my superstructure construction, no problems at all. Everything has fitted together perfectly to date. The deliberate deck caber I introduced on the main deck leaves a 1mm+ gap at the extremes and may cause some head scratching further down the track, but will cross that bridge later. I have decided to build the superstructure as per instructions for now and maybe introduce deck camber later. Baz
