That's an excellent finish on the hull, Northman. certainly gives the rest of us something to aim for. Well done!

Thats the grills on now . I think though the edges need tidying up with some car putty to blend them into the hull . Still got the final painting to do plus any final smothing of the hull to do before painting. Im looking for a good airbrush , can anyone recommend a real good one ? I should have more pics to post soon but I cant for some insane reason download any pics from my memory stick to the computer , I hope to have this resolved in a couple of days .

the basic revell airbrush is what ive been using for yrs as the revell paint jars screww stright onto the brush , i tend to use varous makes of paint and just use revels jars to mix them and to spay with .. example i use vallejo coulours alot so i just squesse the desired paint into a revell jarr and of i go no probs

Have a look in the painting section, there are several discussions about air brushes. Personally I've never got on with the basic Revel (or Humbrol) air brushes. They obviously work for Griffin, and are cheap and easy to clean. Badger are good but more expensive, and Iwata (what I'm currently using) are good, but very expensive.
Get a good compressor, or use a car tyre adapter. The cans of propellant do not work very well (for me at least) and work out very expensive.

hhhahahahaha yes i did forget to say dont use tins of air on the humbol air brush as youll waste the tin just setting the brush up as i found out to my cost i now use a cheap italin compressor oil less ( stops orange peel effect on the paint ) and good luck

Ive completed the aft superstructure up to issue 63, Though I have a couple of concerns as to how to get a good finish on it .As I had to take it apart to do it again well mistakes happen lol . I am now concerned as to when i should start the painting as I have not put down the decking as yet, which I will come to later. The decking being varnished should make it easier to clean any overbrush I hope. Though I have never done airbrushing I am still wondering whether just to use the old brush . I am still pondering on which scheme to paint the old lady and I will need to go through the books to help me decide this .

I'd paint once yo're sure that the brass bulkheads are complete (difficult to tell when this is as I'm sure they won't tell you !) but before you glue down any decks.
Personally, I'd leave it as late as possible. On the Titanic I painted the hull when they told me to. Then later they gave some more details to go on the hull, so the damn thing needed repainting !!

Thanks for the tip Mark , I just hope I get the timing right and I think it going to be hard to line up the lines from the hull to superstructure. But ill give it my best shot

Or you could do what swanrail has done and I think I am going to do as well. He has painted his brasswork and just scratches off the paint where bits need adding and touches it up with a brush. I am gonna do the same as I am tired of all these brass bits floating around and want to get them attached to my superstructure!!

Thats a good idea Afkmatrix though I still dont know which scheme to paint her yet and also . Im a bit embarressed about this , but I dont know the exact location of the final position of the rear superstructure yet lol. Plus I still need to decide on airbrush or just old fashioned brush work , Though I do agree with you and Swanrail and think I should start on the painting soon .

I have been using the aerosol paint spray cans, as I cannot justify an air compressor and am not very happy with spray guns anyway. With my model, the decks were planked first with "real" planks, then I sprayed all of the brass bit having assembled them as near as complete as Hachette allows (they keep adding bits!), after which they were glued into position with Evostik Impact contact adhesive. Later, when more bits came to light, these were added by scratching off the paint in the area, glued on with superglue then brush painted to make good. This way, there is no danger of the decks becoming damaged with spray paint, and all of my brass bits are safely on the model and not floating around in a standby box!!! The aft superstructure is now virtually complete, except for small additions such as companion ways, guns etc, but will not be gluing it down to the main deck until much later.
