I'm back! After spending 160 days aboard I'm finally back home and it feels good. It will take some days before everything is back to normal but Bissy will get her much needed attention. By the way, happy new year.

Hope you had a good trip Thymen. Welcome back ! The trip was nice, crossed the pirate-threat area four times though. I crossed the infamous Golf of Aden three times, three times in a convoy with navy escort. The last trip was with a Chinese led convoy. The convoy consisted of at least 32 (!) merchant vessels of all sizes and three escorting warships. It gave me an slight impression of how things should have been for all those merchant seaman in the Atlantic (and other) convoy's. Although the threat it completely different, I think no one can really understand how it was in those convoy's unless you have sailed in one yourself. For me the threat came from small surface craft with the intention to hijack instead of submarines with the intend to sink my ship. I will try to post some pictures but the camera can't capture what the eye can see out there. The sight of all those ships sailing so close together was just awesome.

Great pics Thymen, as you say safety in numbers. convoys must have been a constant worry to the crews in W11, never knowing if a torpedo could hit the ship anytime. They were all very brave men. mike

Finally I've got some progress to show, I've been very busy fiddling with the brass bits. This is how far I've got. Thymen

Some more photo's... The forward superstructure, I've added a plate of 0.25mm styreen on the middle deck in a attempt to even the deck with the brass bits. The brass parts are now just a tiny bit to high I've used some filler to mask it. Needs some more sanding though. Birdgewing, not so difficult. Catapult, also not so difficult. Little problem here, the middle section is way to long to fit. Is this just a case of sanding or did I go wrong somewhere? Note that the deck and armoured thingy aren't fixed in place yet. The first turret, followed the instructions at first, didn't go well. Took all the brass off and started with the roof. The roof bits needed some sanding to follow the wooden body, when I attached the upper wall I got a little problem. What to do? Second turret, same story. Any tips?

I had the same problem when I did a trial run, but didn't correct it yet. How about trimming it it to size, filing off the rivets, and then simulating them in the right position by punching lightly on the back of the piece with a nail. Worth having a practice on a bit of scrap first though !

That for the advice! Unfortunately I can't put them in practise because last Saturday I crashed my motorcycle at 100km/h. Although it sounds much worse then it actually is. The bike. Me with the poor lady (sorry hun). As you can see my right arm is pretty much useless for about a month and I'm right-handed! So no more building Bissy. Or riding a bike, or swimming etc. etc...

Hi Thymen, First give your turret a light spraying of grey primer to show up all the gaps properly. Now apply ordinary wood filler with your finger to the gaps and wipe the excess off straight away with your finger - this is so that you do not need to sand it when it dries and therefore you will not damage the rivets. Spray again with a light coat of primer and check for gaps. Repeat the process if more filler is required.
