The main problem I have with the etched parts are fingerprint marks. I always wash my hands before touching the etched parts, but I always get prints on them. I need to find something to clean the parts before they are painted, otherwise the paint might not stick to the brass. could you use latex gloves to stop the fingerprints?

Latex gloves and superglue are not good 'friends'.
I have tried paint thinners and it works fine. I also tried a degreaser from work, this works better, so some more may go missing on Monday (just kidding).

Hi everyone, I have not received any brass parts yet, however when I do I will be using latex gloves as suggested by metallisam so that I will not get fingerprints on the brass and also I'd rather get the latex gloves glued together rather than my fingers.

Imagine the embarrassment of having to go to casualty with a porthole cover stuck to your index finger.

In issue 49 the instructions say to mark a line on part 244 just to the left of the grill, this mark indicates the point the part shall be bent at later. But for me, the postion marked is beyond the point of the wooden superstructure where it curves into the gun position by a good couple of mils.
Anybody else got this?
I am assuming I shall just pick my own point to bend the brass at, but it might mean I have an alignment problem.

Hi everyone, just received my first brass bits, in issue 49 the instructions say to attach 5 portholes, but there are 7 port holes on the brass strip. Anyone got this far yet because it does not say if these are spares or will be used later. Also do you apply glue to all of back surface or just enough to stick the part on, which is best way ( glue on small part or glue on main part) because according to the instructions on my super glue you only apply it to one surface.
Thankyou
Trevor

I have done the brass parts up to issue 53 and drilled the hull from issue 54, soon to start on issue 55, the 'cat'.
I hope the portholes are spares, I've lost one a couple of weeks ago, too small for my big fingers. As for amount of glue used, I've been using the smallest amount possible. I've used a sewing needle, with the hole end pushed into a small wine bottle cork. I have found putting the glue on the larger parts better, but some people may find it better the other way. Putting glue only on one surface as well.
Good luck with the brass parts, easier to put together than expected.
